I went beyond my usual preferences and picked up a Schrade whittler. Such a well made knife. Compares easily to Schatt and Morgan.

Nice one. Great color and condition. Doesn't look at least 20 years old either. Thanks for the spring shot, nice to see that wedge in there and the flush everything.

A couple of Cattaraugus knives, gun stock and genuine stag both whittlers.

Hmmm, that's a good one. I don't know the precise definition, but usually 3 blade pattern, various styles, and two springs or three or a split spring. The secondary blades, or small blades, usually work on one or the other spring. The main works off both. I suggest going through this thread and others for whittlers and just see all the configurations. That will give you a pretty good idea. And you can google it, there you can get definitions and probably diagrams or examples I'm sure. Welcome to AAPK. This is the place to learn. Never ends around here. Good to see some new blood.

Thanks Ivory, that's actually what led me to the question. So many different styles under the same title. I'm still trying to learn what differentiates a Trapper from a whittler from a stockman from a cattle knife. Thought I had a Barlow figured until I saw the Boker with no bolster. I'm lost but enjoying the journey.

Oh and can someone tell me how to create a signature?

I could be very wrong here...but as I understand it, a cattle knife has an equal end frame, and a stockman is serpentine.

As for creating a signature (bear in mind that I browse AAPK on a phone): tap your user name, go to "user control panel," and then go to "profile." You'll see an option to edit your signature.

Here's the two I had one me today and the Schrade Cut Co whittler is one of my faves from Schrade.

I think I read somewhere that a true Whittler has a coping blade. Hope this helps!

I have t agree. Blades and handles are class.

This is my only Whittler with three springs. It makes the knife fatter & heavier than a "split-backspring" Whittler, but there's no need to crink any blade.
