Here is a good sized Snapping Turtle I walked up to at the pond where I walk.

I believe the carapace was approximately 15 inches from head to tail.

Totally unnerved. Just headed back to the pond.

Nice snapping turtle photos, Joe. I have always wondered just how hard one of those fellows bites. I am not curious enough to let one bite me, that is for sure. And I was told that they do not let go until it thunders, and we are not having much thunder right now!

Very cool geese photos over in the ornithology thread too. Seems like the pond walk was pretty good today!

I think snappers don't let go they just swallow. Great pics.

Mel, I don't think those guys put up with much sass so they are always willing to protect themselves.
I think they would give you a pretty good bite and depending on their size.
I wonder if a lot of hollering would sound like thunder to them. :D

Nice snapper Joe! Thanks Scott! View from my deer stand this morning, Batchelor group of three spikes at 0725; spread out from 125 to 150 yards on the lane. Heard owls, woodies, and coyotes, these three were my only whitetail. Perfect morning, 44f and light breeze - nice and cool but not cold, acorns dropping like rain in the woods around me. Deer hunting stand breakfast- gonna have a real one soon! OH

Good stuff, Bruce! Looks like that stand should pay off. Maybe the acorns will hold on till Ol' Hartford shows up. :)
Got a picture of some little Hartford's this week:

MM, when we were in Jackson Wy. in 2016 we visited with a momma moose and offspring. They were staying at the motel next to ours. I think they were earning extra money trimming the shrubs.

Looks like a great day out, espn77, thanks for sharing.

Great pics doglegg, I always enjoy going to Jackson. Moose can definitely mow down some foliage!

Here is another pic, I was risking it a little, had a cow charge me on the homestead last year.

Nice moose pictures. We had one behind our house in the bog lake a few years back but they are pretty scarce around here with our heavy deer population. They don't share space very well. ____Dave

djk, funny that they don't share space. Deer are grazers and moose browsers so they would not compete for food. ::shrug::
dlr, love the pics keep them up. ::nod::

Had a good couple of days hunting and fishing this past week. Even had a visit from my old buddy Billy (he lives up in Raleigh now, I live down on the coast) - he hunted one day with me. Caught some bass on a wake bait - the “sexy shad” color was the only lure they’d hit. Shot a 85 lbs doe, I kept a couple pounds from one ham to make venison soup tomorrow, Billy took the rest to a disabled fellow that he knows in Raleigh. Nice relaxing couple of days with lows around 41 and highs around 63 - real fall weather. Buck Knives handled the heavy lifting, but my Case notched the tag - gotta stay legal! OH
