Is it still a bomb if it's off-line?

This one was a flyer. It's not really a "find of the day" today so much as a rediscovery. Since I have no Camillus 21s, I decided to pick this pre-1976 version up on the cheap. When I got it, both blades had terrible and gritty action and the mark side Delrin was hazed so flat-white and so thick in the jigging that I was convinced it was either stained/painted and then left as-is or possibly even plastered accidentally. I opened up the blades and stuck it in a mineral oil bath for a week, took a soft brush to it and the Delrin haze was gone. I was encouraged by the progress on the blade pivots, but ultimately I stuck it back in the tin where it was bathing.

Fast forward to a month later and I remember why I've got this tin sitting on my table. Pull out the knife and wipe it down - both blades open and close with snap like a dream, there is zero grit in the action, and the Delrin is likely in its best condition since leaving the factory (it's probably older than me yet I can't make the same boast ). With that sweet Camillus carbon steel, I think this one's going into the EDC rotation for some showin' off time.
The master clip is a little strange to me. The mark side has a sabre grind but the pile side is flat-ground. I thought it was curious...
I kinda wish I'd taken "before" photos but frankly I didn't have the highest hopes for the knife at first... Delighted with how it turned out.

T.J. --- As far as I'm concerned it is but I'm not in control of definitions so take that for whatever it is.

Tony --- Congratulations on doing the right thing even though it may have been inadvertent. Isn't it sweet to raise a knife from the dead and turn it into something great? As far as the saber grind on the mark side, I've never noticed on other Camillus knives like the 14 & 18 (both Jacks like the 21) but I can tell you the 72 started life with saber grind on both sides, shortly after shifted to saber grind on the mark side only and eventually both sides were flat ground. The 29 and 35 had saber grind on the mark side for some period of time. My little 21 is a post 1990 made for SMKW (Ole Smoky etched on the blade) and is flat ground on both sides so now you've gone and done it. You've bombed me with the desire for a 21 with the saber grind on the master blade. Thanks a lot.

I'll gladly accept the blame for enabling your addiction even further. I think you've caused me to want a 72 with the mark-side sabre grind now, so right back atcha!

Sorry Jerry,I was barking up the wrong tree the other day.TJ,could have known,that sneaky old coot,while half the knifecommunity is cravin for those 72,he heaves one after another roger bone gem out of the bay.And by the lack of competition gets them for a song.I wonder if there is German blood in his veins,they are known for their schemes.

As a matter of fact, three sides of my family are German, Straus, Brausch and Haupt/Houpt/Houp. As far as the quote "the 72................" ya got to blame Jerry for holding on to it and memorializing it.

.......greg, my favorites are the old Camillus split-back whittlers with both secondaries on the same end(like my grandpa used to whittle with), I've got 4 of those and they're my favorite whittlers!!!, sure wish I had my grandpa's!!!!!....... ...................

I have this first gen 72 in decent shape if someone wants to make me an offer , not sure what their going for ?

....that one has the coping blade paired with the master, so it's a second gen. it's a great looking knife, though!!..... ...................
