It's weird, being all plastic....even the blade. No other markings...like kids knife, or prototype

Some place it is described as non-magnetic, does that mean it can pass through a metal detector without being detected?

Philip, it's made of Zytel, a trademark owned by DuPont and used for a number of different high strength, abrasion and impact resistant thermoplastic polyamide formulations of the family more commonly known as nylon. I don't see how it would be detected by a metal detector.

I have a Cold Steel Zytel...creation that came with what I'd call "the sharpest plastic edge I've ever felt" on both edges. It would qualify as "lethal" with any level of melee competency, IMO. I would have no problem using it as an emergency backup weapon.

The idea that a metal detector won't pick it up is nice too.

There are some 'self defense' knives with carbon fiber blades, quite lethal for stabbing and not picked up by metal detectors.

They have yet to make a nice undetectable 2 or 3 blade slipjoint that I can take to concerts, I don't like not having a good knife in my pocket.

Instead of doing taxes today, we decided to take my oldest son out to a birthday dinner and maybe hit a few antique shops on the way home. Good thinking if I do say so myself. I spent a little over $150 in four shops. Top left; Ulster 4 blade with awesome honey bone, (2) small pearl, Wismar, (3) larger pearl with fiery scales, Ulster, (4) Solingen Cut. B.Svoboda two blade small jack, (5) four blade with shield, Ward 411 with really nice scales, (6)Morley candle end jack, (7)Rem. RS4783 got on 40% off sale and she only had $20 on it to start with so I paid $12, (8), Top right, Catt 22256, (9) Henry Sears and son ebony jack was the most expensive at $42.

Great score Dave, I like all of them.

And I also want to thank you for posting purchase prices! It helps and educates a rookie like myself very much, especially since I'm in the other side of the pond.

I'm new to collecting pocket knives, only have 2 so far, but really enjoying this group. My first find was an Imperial. I don't know much about knives yet, but I've been able to determine this one was made in 1956 or earlier. Not sure of the style or what it's made of (assume some type of plastic). I bought it at an estate sale for $4 and thought it would be a great start. I figured I could learn how to clean it up without worrying much if I screwed it up. I used some wd40 to clean it a bit, then lubricated it with some Triflow (silicon spray). Seems to work well now with decent snap. I also cleaned the knife blades by rubbing them with some 320 then 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper with some oil on it. And finally, I used a buffer wheel on my drill press, some 'jeweler's rouge' to polish up the outside and the blades. I think it looks pretty decent for my first restoration. I may work on it a bit more, maybe some #0000 steel wool on the back of the spring.

The second set of images is for a 1971 Camillus U.S. Army issue knife. Paid $5 at an auction. It's in really good condition so I didn't have to do much to it. The main knife is fairly easy to pull open, but the others are pretty stiff (not much use I suppose). Anyhow, thought I'd share my new, and first, finds. Thanks... Mike

Welcome to AAPK Mike, great job cleaning that imperial. You will find there are alot of intelligent and freindly people here. You will also find that knife collecting is quite addictive.

Thanks Monte. Yep, already finding it a bit of an obsession.. lol. Not sure why really, I don't carry anything other than a small swiss army knife with a toothpick and scissors, ha. I've been a coin collector for decades, so maybe it has something to do with small, quality items, not sure. Thanks again for the warm welcome.
