Six and the clip is very 'stiff',, hard to load. I guess my old hands just aren't as strong as they used to be.

Ray, you need to get an UpLULA. Makes loading anything from .32 to .45 SO much easier.

+1 on the mag loader, will definitely save thumbs with large cap clips.

+2 on the Uplula. Works great.

Finally got to the range a couple of days ago, did reasonably well with the Airweight J frame I posted about earlier. But need more practice as I haven’t had much trigger time with anything lately.
Just out of curiosity I also took this Springfield 911 .380 that was from the pawnshop I own. It is small, not much bigger than a Ruger LCP but much heavier and has great sites. First time ever shooting a small .380 and did decent. I’ll be keeping it at least for a while

This is the last firearm that I bought. I carried a full size 1911, comfortably concealed, since CC was legal in my state. Five years ago, in deference to my aging, I downgraded a round and a few ounces to carry a Colt Defender, still in .45. Since the country has seemed to have gotten more dangerous in the past few years, I bought this one to increase magazine capacity. It was a hard decision to move away from .45 ACP; I shot my first one in Navy boot camp and loved them ever since. It is a great firearm, absolutely reliable so far, it uses my full size CZ magazines and I just like metal guns. It does have a drawback that keeps it in the safe; I can't find a holster that carries it comfortably. The difference in thickness of RAMI and the 1911 is enough to make it really dig in, (it feels like carrying a brick) so I have gone back to carrying the Defender. It is not a total loss however, it is still a fun range piece and I shoot it very well. CZ RAMI:

CZs are consistently on my list of potential semi-auto purchases...and that's a very short list. Various 1911s also make that list.

By the time I joined the Navy, the 1911 had been replaced by the 92F (pretty sure that's what I got pistol qualified.on, anyway). I can only hope the current Sig is an improvement.

I am going to ramble a bit here, so, smoke 'em if you got 'em.

I have the Sig, and the 92, I don't think that the Sig any great improvement. They are both good guns. I bought the SIG because I figured that anyone who is serious about owning pistols and revolvers should have one Tupperware gun and I could not buy a Glock because of all of the unwarranted, unfair and nasty things I have said about them since I saw the first one. I would have chosen the CZ over the Sig, but they didn't' let me choose.

Neither do I believe that the 92 was any great improvement over the 1911. They said that they changed from the 1911s because the 1911s were worn out. That was a dirty, rotten, stinking lie, they changed from the 1911s because they would not wear out! My 1918 produced 1911 is still a damn deadly weapon! It shakes and rattles, but it will still hit minute of man at 50 yards. If something breaks, which it hasn't yet, they are still making parts over eleven decades later. It is such a good design, (how good is it?) It is so good that they can make excellent copies in Turkey or the Philippines and with child labor! It is would be better if the military, if they believed their troops needed to have pistols, to train the troops to shoot pistols well with iron sights rather than worry about how many electronic gizmos that they can hang one one. Gadgets do not marksmen make and "modular" was something invented in an advertising office...

We swapped pistols because somebody made a hell of a lot of money off of the deal.

The pistol, in the military service is just a badge of honor for officers. A .25 Raven could do the job with very little loss of life, a great deal of savings, and it might give the officers a little, badly needed, humility...I know that some special force small units need pistols to fight with, and MPs need pistols to control troops that they are not tough enough to manhandle, but not the regular GIs. Better provide them with folding bicycles so that they could get the hell out of Dodge before the boogey man got a chance to do the tango in their foxhole.

Along a similar train of thought, I was thinking about a post in another section about good enough "fighting knives" in the military. Not matter how much Uncle Sam spends, he will not beat a Quartermaster knife from the 40s. If you end up fighting with a knife that means that the Air Power and armor has failed, the arty has failed, the Army, division, the regiment, the battalion, the company the squad, the rifle and the pistol have failed, and some bastard has gotten within reach, and someone thinks that they are going to fight their way out of trouble with a blade? I am a big fan of military knives, but I know that the cut off far more calluses, or pieces of insoluble chocolate emergency rations, opened more C rations and cut more toenails, than jap throats. I would be willing to bet all of my knives that more WWII GIs were injured by their own"Ka Bars" than Japanese and Germans combined!

CZ & Sig are both excellent choices. While I prefer the CZ, you can’t go wrong with either. I’d suggest that you get whichever feels better in your hand. Good grip is very important. If it feels uncomfortable, find a different one. Your biggest problem now is finding ammo that you don’t need to take out a second mortgage to afford. Prices are outrageous and may drop down eventually if people stop hoarding. Just my opinion. I’ve seen sellers charging $12 for 50 rds. of .22

I had to go after a racoon this evening (the rascal was on the porch eating out of the cat's bowl, and refused to budge--heck he was more tame than the cats!), so I had to get my trusty 1979 Ithaca M-66 Super Single in 20GA.


My great-uncle bought it new, and mostly kept it with him on the ATV, and I received it as part of my inheritance around time I turned 20. It is currently the only firearm I own. Granddad started me young on firearms safety and taught me well. However, I am taking the Hunter Education and Concealed Carry courses this summer, and looking at something lighter to accompany me in the woods. I hate the look of synthetic stocks, but they do shave the weight off.


Also, I need a shell recommendation. Remington no longer makes the "Express" rounds I inherited with the gun, and I like them for varmint control and home defense as it's got more powder and heavier shot than most 20GA rounds. This old gun might be doing some deer hunting this fall also.

With the mess the ammo supply is currently you may have to settle for whatever is available. However, if you didn’t know , a person can purchase ammo online and have it shipped to their house. ( unless you are in one of the states that forbid it such as California or New York). But shipping is expensive as has to be UPS or FedEx.
Normally 00 Buckshot is recommended for home defense and #4 for varmints. I believe that gun can shoot either 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells.

Obama closed the lead mines under the reason of clean environment. We all know he did it to reduce ammo, forcing outrageous prices. Can’t abolish the second amendment quickly, he went after the ammo.

Carrying my usual "go to" EDC today. A SIG believer to the core although many other great brands of course. Just how I do it. Besides reliability, lots of features/ controls that I feel comfortable with and prefer.

SIG SAUER P220 DA/SA 5" Full Size 10MM. If you don't mind carrying a 44 ounce loaded EDC, it's a great firearm. Makes a great club as well if needed.

I have that one in stainless 45acp and it is a magnificent weapon. For me, it seems like it weighs about 10 lbs. and when I carry it, nothing is concealed.

Ditto that. In fact #4 makes for pretty fair use on any varmint, including the “home defense” type.

Hope life is well.

My SIG 45 ACP seems feather light to the 10MM which is 4 ounces shy of 3 pounds loaded/ concealed. Take the .45 when I prefer a still powerful round but a lighter concealed weight.

SIG P220 Combat TB (threaded barrel).

Also have a P938 in .380 like you posted. They do make 7 round mags for about 50 bucks from SIG. 7+1 first load.

Cody, I have the same gun. It was the first gun my momma bought daddy after they were married. I may have had two boxes of shells shot through it, and it’ll go to my oldest boy. They’re great guns, but boy have they gone up in value, $300 or more for a well used one.

As to the ammo, stay away from the cheap Winchester bulk pack stuff. Whatever mystery metal they make the bases out of will not contract after firing and will jam a gun up quick, even a single shot.

As to loads, it depends on what I’m shooting. For general varmint stuff, #4 shot is usually sufficient. As to home defense, I REFUSE TO USE 00 BUCK IN THE HOUSE! I have kids in the house and the last test I saw, 00 Buck will penetrate up to 20 sheets of dry wall. I don’t want to touch one of those off with my kids on the other side of the wall. I use #4 shot in the house too. I can assure you that anything (bad guy included) you hit with #4 shot will have a real bad day.

My shotgun is loaded with #4 shot for use both indoors and outdoors.

Recent FBI tests concluded that quality 9mm. is as effective as .45. The 9mm. duplicates the wound channel of the .45 and they could not distinguish one wound channel from the other. Real life shootings apparently confirm the lab studies. Again, the tests were with best quality 9mm.
