Back from the Duluth,Mn. gun/knife show with one treasure. A very nice little stag fixed blade in it's sheath stamped WISE with an owl stamped on the sheath under WISE. Paid $30 for it so I'm very pleased. Do any of you know who this maker might be. There is a Donald Wise listed in Knives 2014 from England but I know nothing about him or how he marked his work.____Dave

I may have seen a pic of that stamp once but I know nothing about it. For the price that's a beautiful little drop-point, and perfectly sized for EDC. Great find!

We went to the antique store to locate tea pot for one of Miss Joy's friends. Naturally I was lookin' for other "things". Saw a lot of junk knives and a lot of over priced knives. The owner said he had a couple at the desk he would show me after ramblin' around the store for a while.
He had 4, 3 folders and a fixed blade. The fixed blade wasn't interesting and honestly neither were the other 3 but the owner made them worth while. My 1st honest to goodness, brand spankin' new 375 Buck from China , an old shell handled Hammer Brand ('45-'55) with a full blade and a pretty fair Case M279 with a bail-1980 10 dots.

Todays thrift store finds:

First off a small Gentlemen pocket knife with advertisement from Luxor Radio, which was a Swedish manufacturer of radios, TVs, HiFi-systems etc.
As so many others they went belly up by late 70´s or early 80´s. They changed names a few times but had this logo between 1934 and 1979 I think?

The blade is marked EMP and Solingen.

Kind of neat little knife for only a buck, or the equivalent in Swedish currency.
Then I found a really nice Swede 60 made by EKA in Eskilstuna Sweden. Just need a light cleaning and oiling and a sharpening and it will be good to go.
A little less than 5 bucks with a cheap lanyard and the Aitor pouch.

My very first folding knife was a black Swede 60 and I have always enjoyed them very much too.

Sorry if I spam and gloat but I am so happy and have been very lucky (when it comes to knives at least!) the last few days.

Two nights ago I placed a bid on auction for three folding knives. Bad pic and no description but they looked like Eskilstuna to me.

Since the seller lived very close to me I took a chance and placed a lowball bid of 5 bucks and got them.

Went there today to pick them up and they were Eskilstuna alright and in fair condition too. I handed over the money and thanked the lady and turned to walk down her stairs.

Then she asks if I liked knives and I said yes.
She responded by saying that she had some more and I could buy them all for 15 bucks, hands me a plastic bag with the lot and I just took a quick glance and handed over the cash.

There are 15-20 from Eskilstuna, a GAK by Henckels, a Victorinox SAK, about 10 from Solingen and a few more I need to investigate.

Best knife find ever even if some are broken and a few are in poor condition.

I will post more about these in the European forum later on.

Very nice find Jim! There looks to be some mother of pearl in there. I noticed most of them have a corkscrew, is that a very common type of knife for people in your area?

Well I guess it is mostly a traditional thing here in Europe, to have a corkscrew on a folding knife but cork were used up until just a few decades ago, and for many types of bottles, not just for wine. So there was a need for it more often than one would think.

Just guessing here so anyone can feel free to chip in if you have any thoughts about why so many Euro knives have corkscrews.

One of my New Year's resolutions was to not buy any more knives. That didn't last very long. I found this one at one of the local antique shops(there are now four in the downtown area)and it was unusual enough that I decided to buy it. They also have a Boker straight razor with faux jigged bone scales but the price is too much for me.Anyway this is marked,"Hachinette France...C.M.Thurnauer Co. Stainless" on the blade and "Hachinette Brevete S-GDG" on the sleeve holding the blade in place. Upon doing some research I found that had a rounded wooden bowl that goes with it. apparently designed for chopping up herbs and such.I only paid $6 for it so it's not a huge investment.

You sure did hit the European cutlery jackpot, Jim.

K7K, you can always rationalize it by saying it's not technically a "knife" so you didn't really break your resolution.

Ray and Tony I'm ashamed of both of you for even entertaining the thought of of such a resolution or rationalization! VERY NICE HERB CHOPPER!

If I were silly enough to have made that resolution on New Year's Eve it would've been broken before New Year's Day was over anyway.
