I understand the confusion: the Monkey was too lazy to type out the full word "E-l-e-p-h-a-n-t" so he made up a pseudo-scientific looking abbreviation thinking it would make him look intelligent. Bad Monkey! :x

Modern Slip Joints wrote: Wed Nov 06, 2019 7:24 pm Regarding the discussion of white v. natural bone, I own a W61050 with bone that is conspicuously dyed white. The research section writes G6 sometimes means green bone and I own green bone Cases that have that tang stamp prefix. I'd like to know if W6 also has also been used to identify dye color. The thang on my W61050 is also stamped Winston Cup so the W might come from Winston. Oddly the knife has no other marks on it that relate to car racing. It has no blade etchings or other decorations, only the non-standard tang stamps.
Been meaning to respond to this interesting bit-o-tang stamp trivia for some time but I keep getting sidetracked by shiny new 07s. (Please forgive me, Mini T Monkey has a very short attention span and lacks any semblance of object permanence.)

I found this one on eBay awhile ago (see page 36 of this thread). At the time, I thought it was a factory error like the green spruce tree w/red circle XX shield Mini Trapper (see page 37) that mistakenly had a "W" (for Wharncliffe) on a Spey blade. However, the Wharncliffe "W" is always at the end of the pattern number, not at the beginning. So, I now believe that the "W" prefix is, in fact, intended to designate "White" as you suggested, much like the "G" prefix stands for "Green".

I like to hear that I might be right. However, your W207 lacks the 6 for bone that is included in my W61050 and my G6__ green bone Case. Which knife or knives are G6___ escapes my memory. I think one is another 61050, making it G61050. Maybe there should be a C in those large Coke Bottle numbers for their left side bolsters but the C does not matter in this discussion. WC61050? Remembering it all was easier before I started collecting knives that I'll never use. Unfortunately I lost all my pictures a couple of times in computer failures. Since its stamp is not 4207 and you did not write other wise I assume your W207 has bone sides.

Another Case that I only have a fuzzy memory of might offer a clue. It has wood sides that are probably walnut for which its pattern prefix ordinarily would be 1. Its walnut is deep engraved with the name of a lumber company. It has a two or three letter prefix that is not in the research section. I interpreting it as custom ordered. Perhaps the W in your W207 was part of the special order.

Obviously I would have been smarter delaying answering for a couple weeks so I could dig out the knives but I wanted you to know I read what you wrote. Some time in the future I'll clear things up.

By the way, I've never seen a W suffix on a 6307 that has a Warncliff for a third blade. A ways back you typed 6307W. Have you actually seen that on a blade tang?

Indeed, I have...on this one that I sold on eBay for $40.00.

Holy Abalone, Batman!

Been wanting to get one of these Tony Bose Collaboration Wharncliffe Trappers ever since it was released in 2013. To my utter amazement and joy, I stumbled onto this one and the seller accepted my offer. ::ds:: ::super_happy::

Still have to pinch myself every time I look at it to believe it's real and I'm not dreaming since this knife has been a recurring subject in so many of my dreams.

The question now is: Since Mini T Monkey has finally obtained his "Holy Grail" Mini Trapper, does this spell the end of his obsessive Mini Trapper quest once and for all? ::suspense::

Mahalo, Muchachos. :D

I still love my other Mini Ts, but the difference between this one and the rest of my collection is like comparing a custom handmade knife to a factory made knife. Kinda like comparing a Mazda to a Maserati; there's really no comparison.

I fear that Floyd may be correct: this knife has not quenched the Monkey's thirst; quite the contrary, it's only made him desire a more expensive, higher quality beverage. ::dang:: ::facepalm::

'A dollar to spend at MacDonalds'????? Jerry, you of all people!!! That's not the way this monkey works. Begging for a dollar yes but not for MacDonalds, unless they have an 07. ::facepalm::

A body's gotta eat at some point. I don't see you gnawing those beautiful bone handles off an 07 and besides, there's no nutrition in bone handles. You'll starve ole son.

I appreciate your concern for the Monkey's survival. However, I can assure you that even though he recklessly spends all my money on Mini Trappers like a drunken sailor on shore leave, he won't starve until after he's chewed off all my limbs and sold my internal organs on the black market in order to fund his Mini T addiction. (I'm pretty sure he's already consumed part of my brain...the part responsible for rational thought and decision making! ::uc::)

I, for one, am looking forward with great anticipation and bated breath to see your next 07 acquisition(s), jerryd.

In the meantime, here's my latest 07 pick up: a 2008 Smooth White Bone 6207 SS. This one's interesting for the simple fact that it has no shield, which is kind of unusual. I can't honestly say I have seen too many no-shield 07s (other than stag handled 5_07s).

Also, this is another one of those that does not appear to be dyed white but it doesn't look the same as the natural bone either. I did not get a box with it so I'm not sure exactly what Case called this particular type of handle. I call it Smooth Oiled Bone.

QTCut5,

Reading through the thread I was going to comment on a question that you asked on page 6 about your 1997 CCC Jr. 62007. You asked why it has a second zero? I decided to read on and see if you had already gotten an answer form someone else. I don't think you did. I forgot about it until I saw a 1990s Case Classic 3 7/8" Trapper auctioned on evil bay this week. It was stamped with the same pattern number as your 1997 CCC Junior, 62007. Like most Case Classics it was made by Queen with 1095 carbon steel blades. It was a reproduction of Case's first Trapper. Remember, Case discontinued their first Trapper replacing it with the longer _254 and shorter _207 Trappers. I've read that sometimes Case added an extra zero in the middle of the pattern number to indicate that there was something unusual about the knife. If an owner called Case to ask about repairing a Case Classic 62007 that extra zero would alert the service staff that unusual parts might be required. I doubt that they still have any parts for Queen made 3 7/8" Trappers.

Queen's specialty was small production runs. In addition to the 1990s Classic line Queen made some the Case knives sold as club knives. What is the closed length of your 1997 CCC Jr. 62007?
QTCut5 wrote: Thu Oct 12, 2017 1:45 am Here's a single blade bare head 07 that was the Case Collectors Club Jr. Member knife for 1997. What I find interesting about this knife (other than it being my first bare head mini trapper) is the pattern number: 61007. We know the 6 = bone handle scales, the 1 = single blade, and the 07 = Case pattern number assigned to the mini trapper frame...but why is there an extra 0 in there? Anyone know?

I ordered both knives during the dark hours of Monday morning. One from Amazon and the other from Shepherd Hills. The Amazon order has gotten as far as the last stop in the Chicago suburbs and should be delivered today. I don't see any evidence that the one from Shepherd Hills has even been shipped. This is not the first time they've been lackadaisical when it comes to shipping. I've decided to not order from them at any time in the future. They have nothing going for them that trumps their slow shipping.

Edit Wednesday noon: Just received an email notifying me that the knife has shipped. 48 hours+ between the order and shipping is too much. Same day is perfect and the next day is acceptable but any time longer than that, for a business that specializes in the sale knives (or anything for that matter), moves into the unacceptable arena for me. C. Risner is another one that is a little slow to ship.

Great thread! But while I like the 07 I still prefer the full size '54 Trapper. Not that much larger and rides well either in my pocket or a belt sheath.
