To be generous, this eBay seller has previously "improved" the condition of standard production BSA knives through rehandling and backspring file work.
I agree with Jerry that this is most likely a black handled 1047 rehandled with MOP.
On the other hand you could spin a great story about it being a 1 of 1 example of the 1047.......I'm sticking to my research and gut on this one.
The seller of the knife is a lucky person .He seems to find knives that don"t exist or knives the blades are used but the handles are perfect.
Nice knives Colonel46 and jerry.
Love the 72 and clones.

Alright, since I told Jerry, I'll tell the rest if you. It was done by our very own Glennbad for a friend. He decided he couldn't live with the pattern and I inherited for my services!

Yeah, me too. And the occasional cheap one (under $15-$20 including shipping). I can see where I'm headed. For a while I was a collector. Now I'm turning back into an accumulator.

Isn't that what a real collector does, ............................................................................. gets OCD over certain items?

I feel your pain. Right now Camillus 72 and 69 and Western 742 patterns are in a neck and neck race to see who can edge out the other. It'll be interesting to see who wins!

Can't tell Grant. Can you get a clearer shot of the tang stamp?
I've never seen one with stag handles. It could be a rehandle.

Jerry think it's a long line under Camillus. Some of these picture on Ebay are not very clear.( if it does not have a line it must be a three line.

It's a long line. Surely to goodness it's a rehandle. It looks nice though.

I just looked at that one on ebay and it is the looooooong underline. There is a clearer picture of it in his listing, though he calls it a four-line stamp.

Good eyes boys. Definitely a long line and definitely a rehandle. Handle pins are too large to be factory, plus even with the poor focus pictures there's evidence in the bolster pin that it's been apart.
Good God. I've seen more of this going on with 72s over the past six months. Now I have to worry about 72 counterfeits.

......I've never seen a 4line(1914-1941) camillus whittler that wasn't the split-backspring configuration(both secondary blades on opposite end from the primary)...........

Exactly Tommy. I'd be willing to bet the pucker in my butt the first Carpenter's & Whittler's (#72s) were short line made in very late 1945 or sometime in 1946. This one is a long line made in the late 1950s or later.

Brian, it's no secrete what I think. Generally, with these big mitts of mine, anything less than 4 inches is a toy.
But the 72 is the biggest little knife I've ever packed.

Woo Hoo I just slipped one by Jerry and Grant! That's getting harder to do. It's in pretty good shape it seems from the pictures and it comes with an old four line Camillus scout. The scout's blade is pretty worn, but everything ekes looks real good.

Colonel 26: I was watching that one .The seller would not put a set price on postage so I would not bid.( I get postage quotes from $6 to $40 so I have watch what I bid on )
Plus the wife is keeping a eye on me.
