Carrying it today and thats what made me come to this thread to check out the other canoes. It's nothing special, just a Rough Rider that came with smooth white bone handles that I dyed with some dark brown dye for a appaloosa bone look. It is a good knife with a keen edge and nice snap, I'm kinda fond of it. :)
Nice dye job on the bone. Is that a reflection on the blade or did you do something to that blade? Looks cool.

Thats reflections from trees above.

Those 2 canoes are killer SSK. Nice bones and with scrolled bolster to boot. ::tu::

Thanks, I like those a lot too. Too bad that blade isn’t rainbowed like it looks, I would buy one for that. RRs have very high reflective value. It’s pretty impressive their finish on those.
Something interesting I learned from Scrimshander Gary Harbour about RRs. He scrims elephant toe natural bone RRs. He told me that the bone on these RRs are the best for scimshawing of any knife he ever scrimed. Takes and holds the dye better than any other knife. It’s very high quality.

I'm lovin' this! More canoes!!! ::super_happy:: Bokers and Cases and Queens, oh my!

Since I've posted all of my canoes on this thread at one time or another, this is no doubt a repeat but it's worth lookin' at again.

Sorry, guys. I only have one more Canoe & it's in the shop, getting beautiful scales. May have it back by Christmas.

I'm probably the newest one here & I'd also enjoy any Canoes you all post, whether others have seen them, or not. Meanwhile, here's a little one, a 2013 SS Case, & it looks like oil from the right pivot is migrating into the bone.

That would be time consuming! However, being a bit of a show-off, I'll post a couple more repeats while I wait for the ol' brown mule to deliver my latest newbie. It should be here today.

Here is a set that I'm fond of...

I had that complete set w/ matching serial numbers and sold them last year on eBay. I wonder if you are the one I sold them to? I always hoped they went to a good home. These were a SFO for SMKW in the 1980’s. Neat to see these again.

No, it wasn't me. I tracked them down one at a time and the serial numbers aren't all the same. Do you remember what the total number produced was? I tried to find out but even the folks at Case and SMKW couldn't tell me. I don't have a serial number higher than 500 so I've been assuming that they are 1 of 500. But you know what they say about that word "assume".

Sasquach,
Thanks. I really like the looks of that S&M. I like it so much that I got one. but mine wasn't a keeper. The pen blade was really loose. Floppy loose. I can't understand how it got out the door like that. Or, maybe that's a clue why they aren't making 'em any more. If I pushed the pen blade down, it was a really good-looking knife. I almost hated sending it back but I know I would have forever hated keeping it like that.

Charlie, Yes I do know. There were only 500 produced of each pattern and they were sold through the SMKW store back in the 80’s. There are 2 1 blade, 2 2 blade and 2 3 blade canoes. You have all of them. I have never seen anyone else sell all of them w/ the matching serial numbers. These pop up occasionally singlely.
The tins or jewelry box containers did not hold up. Mine were rusted under the felt. The fasterners all broke down and left gunk on the handles. Not the best packaging or storage containers. Had to do a lot of cleaning to get these back to mint.
It’s nice to see the entire collection again. Congrats on collecting them all.

Geocash, I'm guessing that when the doors closed at Queen there were many seconds and unfinished knives in the factory. Who knows how many of them are out there now? Also, as the employees saw "the writing on the wall" it's possible that quality dropped off. Just a totally sad situation.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions, SSK. A fellow collector found a complete set of the clam-shell boxes in good condition (no knives) for me in Kentucky. Before that I didn't have all of the boxes and the ones I had weren't all in good shape.

Can't wait to see it!

I'm clad that the industry has come up with a bunch of synthetic materials that can reproduce the old celluloid handles without the gassing problem.

Here is another favorite, CCC regular member 2008 club knife. Oatmeal jigged bone canoe. I love oatmeal bone, simply gorgeous. You have to hand it to Case, they dye and jig bone in the most incredible way.
