All About Pocket Knives

I did some research on that snake and drew a blank. My initial thought was maybe a juvenile Copperhead. I was guessing the skin pattern hadn't developed yet but looked like it could. Probably just a rat snake. But its head, tho still small, reminded me of a viper.

I think Mel got it common water snake, we call them water moccasins, not to be confused with cotton mouth moccasins .

I believe that here in the US all poisonous snakes except for coral have the triangle shaped head.

I believe you are correct Floyd. The thing is, in that small head I thought I saw the makings of a triangle assuming it was a juvenile. Did I mention I'm soon to have an eye exam?

The snake looks like something in the Garter family to me.
Our Common Garters have red spots on their sides like that. Their stripes are lengthways though. The size would be about right for some of the Garters.

Ok, it looks like it probably is a Northern Water Snake.

I know what it is, it's a DEAD snake if it comes anywhere near me or the house!!!!

That's about as accurate a description as I've ever heard !!

Speaking of snakes.......I am out in the woods and fields nearly everyday with my dog and hadn't run across a Copperhead in years but have seen 3 this year. Not being one to "Poke the Bear", I got a picture of this one and was on my way.

As far as discretion goes, I will say that the "zoom" feature can come in mighty handy at times!

When I was a kid, I jumped off the tractor and whacked a prairie rattler with a 12 inch crescent wrench. Not smart, but I got away with it. I have a friend who kills rattlers who don't rattle but leaves the ones who do. I don't kill anything anymore unless I am going to eat it, and then only reluctantly and with great respect.

A crescent wrench??? That's a great story! I think I would have to have about a 3 foot pipe wrench before I would attack a rattler.

Personally, I'd like a 50 foot clear path in a different direction.

FRJ, I too was wondering what rifle that might be? Can't hardly see enough of it to even guess but I would feel good guessing that it might be a Winchester 1905, 1907 or 1910. The steel cap on the forend with the activating rod sticking out is what I'm basing my guess on. Those 3 models were all auto loaders and had from .32 Win & .35 Win in the '05, the '07 was a.351 Win & the '10 was a 401 Win. My wife's uncle had a 1907 in .351 that made me drool.
Notice the feller's eyes are closed. The ol' boy done went a busted him a goodun'!
