Very nice, OC! With no access to Kydex, could a catcher be made out of sisal twine, cotton or hemp? Just thinking about materials that wouldn't melt like nylon.
Kydex is available from the knife maker suppliers to make sheaths. Or the materials you mention could be woven to make a "basket". The Kydex one I made years ago for a Mini 14 was difficult. I glued it with epoxy and put it on the gun. Mini 14s are reknown for their violent abuse of brass. On the first shot, the ejected brass hit the Kydex and the glue let go and the pieces fell in a pile on the ground. I reassembled it with aluminum clips and pop rivets.

Went to the junk/antique store today, looking for a straight razor for a gift. No luck but I did come away with these 2 boxes for $19.30.

It's all NOS, O.C. The guy at the shop was showing me an old single barrel shot gun and an imported sidelock M/L and I noticed the boxes. The price tag on the carbine shells was what I paid which is several years old, no doubt and he asked $5 for the 12 ga. #8's. Just looked at some prices and brass for the carbine runs from 25 cents to 40 cents per piece depending on once fired or new. I got several boxes of .22 ammo a year or so ago from a yard sale that was also a bargain. Every once in a while, even a blind hog will find an acorn.

Awesome deal, tree!

It seems ammo is becoming more available but prices aren't going down. You did very well.

A few weeks ago before the COVID struck us, I went to the Cave City gun and knife show. I took a couple of toys that had been sitting around unused for a while, and wouldn't you know it, I found a unicorn that I'd been looking for for years. I sold my two for a profit bought this one and actually had $50 left over. That doesn't happen to me often.
This is an honest to goodness pre safety (1978) J.M. Marlin 1894 44 magnum. I had one with the safety several years ago and sold it in a moment of need and have wanted a pre safety ever since. Bambi watch out!

And those older Marlins will just keep going up in value. I was at an auction Sunday an 1895 in 45/70 sold for $1200.

I’m kind of a Marlin nut, it’s a sickness. But you’re right any of them are through the roof. I remember, not too many years ago when you could pick up a good used 336 in 30-30 $200-$250. Now they’re asking $800 for them in any condition. It’s crazy. Maybe I should sell mine and retire.

I keep going back and forth. Right now it has an old Redfield wide view 2x7 on it, bore sighted. But I’m seriously thinking of putting a skinner peep sight on it.
I have an old waffle top 336 .35 Rem with an old Williams receiver sight on it that I like real good. So this one may get a peep too.
Either way I’m just about to the point I need a bit of help. I’ve noticed that the sun ain’t near as bright as it used to be when I’m looking at rifle sights.

Thank you Mr. Ray! I have it’s little brother in 357 from the same year. Truth be told for just plain old fun shooting, the 1884c shooting 38 specials is about my favorite rifle to shoot hands down.

Colonel I’m jealous of that Marlin. Ive got 4 model 39’s. But my .357 is a Rossi and my 30/30 is a Marlin with a safety.
Hang onto that .44mag!

I’m jealous of all your 39s!
I only have one, a 39M form 1973. I’d love to see pictures of yours. I really love Marlon 39s.
While I prefer the ones without the safety, as long as it says JM on the barrel, it’s all good. And I bet that Rossi is still a hoot to shoot.

Thank you Brother Philip.
The best non covetous covet I ever heard was the other morning standing on the school front porch doing morning duty. Our school resource officer was standing with me and a dad came through the line dropping off his kid. He was pulling a nice enclosed trailer and the SRO said, “I wish I had that trailer and he had one better.” lol.

Thank you. I’ve always loved lever action rifle and single action revolvers.
Knives and guns, I knew what I liked when I was ten years old and my tastes never changed.
