ESPN those Westerns, especially the folders are some kind of awesome.

This buy has been fun. Some knives in there I know very little about so I'll have fun searching out info on them. Thanks for all the kind words. It does feel good to have others like what you bought. Lol

Back home from my monthly knife club meeting with these rare and unusual items. A Case 322-6 (my best guess without looking it up), A Joseph Allen bowie I plan to restore if I can find some suitable material for a guard and some nice stag, A L30 Chicago Cut, an finally an unmarked mid 1800's lockback with a folding guard and an early lead filled patch on the front scale. It most likely was marked long ago but nothing shows anymore.

Rare and unusual to say the least! The bolster/guard on the bottom one looks like it was a serious knife at one time. I'm not familiar with the bowie maker, Joseph Allen, what's the history? Somethin' to keep you busy when the snow gets too deep .

Joseph Allen was used all the way from 1810 to 1959 and this one has England under the Sheffield so it's probably just after the turn of the century. It's not rated anywhere near Rogers or Wostenholm but it will be a fun one to play with. I'm in it for $5 so I can pretty well do what I want with it and not feel like I'm wrecking some historical treasure. The swing guard lockback on the other hand is one I probably won't mess with. It's likely Civil War and the lead repair is something that was done pretty far back according to the very trusted friend I bought it from. I still may take it hunting some day. ___Dave

No, I'm not smart enough to know details like that but with all the antique trick knives and those fancy folders Sheffield made early on that they thought us Americans would eat up, I would guess it was pretty early.____Dave

No great treasures here, but a unsharpened West-Cut and a Case made Zippo, Bradford lock-back for a couple dollars made my day a little brighter. ___Dave

Definitely like that Ulster barlow. Also, what handle material was used on that set of flatware? Very nice acquisitions.
