Treefarmer - you have a lot of exposed skin in that photo. Right now the dog flies and yellow flies are pretty think in my area. Hope you had some repellent! Cool photo of the deer. The squirrels ruin a lot of our bird feeders too.

Well, for a guy with the name of "Treefarmer", you don't seem to be raising a very good crop of trees!"

The clean up looks good, and it looks like the deer and coons like it too. I haven't been to my lease since the end of March. My daughter graduated college, and then got married two weeks later, and the wife is remolding the house. It's been a busy 3 months. My feeder is empty, and I am sure the batteries in my feeder and camera are kaput.

I think me and guys are planning on getting back out there on the 13th and 14th. I am sure I will have some bushwhacking and cleaning up to do as well.

We are still waiting for the logging crew to come and salvage what they can from the hurricane. The timber buyer rebuilt the road a month ago so they could get in and out without having to pull the trucks with a skidder. There is so much timber down in the Panhandle and being a small tract owner we don't seem to get the attention the bigger land owners command. Our timber was not critical to our survival as it was to a lot of folks, it was a part time endeavor.
Our lease property timber was not damaged too much as it is relatively young, 10 years old +/-. Lots of it withstood the wind where the older timber was snapped by the wind. I suppose it is the fact the crown of the larger, older pines worked as a sail and when they had all the tension it could stand the trees snapped off 10 to 15 feet up the trunk. It would be a daunting task for me at my age to try and clean up our 80 acres. I can't afford it financially or physically. It is what it is and I'm so very thankful we had no actual damage to our home.
It doesn't take much land to kill a deer so I'll just piddle along with what I can.

It is not unusual to see seal's in the water when we are in Seattle. But this us usually all you see. Still fun.

I haven’t posted in the Outdoorsman Thread in quite awhile, but I have been following your adventures. Been super busy getting our old house up to speed to try once again to put it on the market (and sell it this time!). I got out one morning to turkey hunt this season, called one to me and blew the shot - got busted getting my shotgun up and the Tom got away. I laughed and cussed my luck, then cut some more scrub to brush myself in, then heard another Tom gobbling on the ground - which is where this one ended up! I also got in plenty of offshore and inshore fishing. Working, hunting, fishing, and working on an old house can really tie up your time! OH

Good stuff, Bruce! You ought to retire so you can have more time to hunt and fish.
Hope you can sell the house, I imagine that is a big deal.

OH - looks you have had a real good spring and summer outdoors. Great photos - Largemouth Bass and Spotted Sea Trout are two of my favorite fish to catch!

Phil, I roll the idea around in my head now and then, but I've got a good gig, so I may keep with it a few more years.
Mel, know what ya mean, Specks and Largemouth - not sure which I like fishing for the most - though of course I eat the Specks, but turn the LMB loose.

I do exactly the same thing. Very rarely do I keep a Bass, but Specks go into the cooler!

I only use top water lures for Bass. When a Bass hits a top water lure aggressively, it is like all the excitement of fishing is compressed into one second of time. And Bass do jump at times, especially if hooked on a top water lure, which is another thing that makes them special. I caught the little fellows below last month in my favorite river; a small black water river that I fish out of my kayak. I have had some visitors in my garden lately, too. The frog was on a cucumber leaf. The Box Turtle was feasting on fallen pears under my trees. I have two dwarf Asian Pear trees. They make quite a bit of fruit, When the pears first start getting ripe I am quick to harvest and eat them, but after a couple of weeks I am getting a bit tired of pears. The birds are loving my neglect, and so is the turtle!

Not much to report on my end. Just the yard is getting over run with moles, squirrels, and black birds! Grrrrrr!
Got some shooting to do for sure! Just not enough energy most of the time.

Charlie, it is the Escatawpa River. It is a small river that meanders along the Alabama-Mississippi state line. The launch that I use is fourteen miles from my home, which makes it one of the closest places for me to launch a kayak. It is also the first river that I ever floated on, when I was about six, with my Dad. Here is another photo.

I am planning to hit the river again in the morning. Unfortunately, I will need to take a garbage bag along. After a holiday weekend I expect that some boaters will have left beer and soda cans on the sandbars.

Mel, OH, mighty fine fishing you have there.

Lots of wildlife and their youngins at the park lately.....Turkeys, Armadillos, Deer, Gopher Tortoise, and wasps....yup got stung 9 times yesterday. Had no clue
wasps like to nest in palm leaves....I do now though.
