I kind of figured you would appreciate the old doc`s knife, with grooved bolsters, match striker pull and a long slender shield I agree this one has a lot of class

I only have a few, this has been one of the hardest patterns to find when collecting old knives, I don`t think they sold very many of them compared to other patterns. I would love to find a pearl handle one someday

MB; you're going to hate this, but while traveling in New Hampshire in 1997, I bought a Remington two blade physician's knife, with an etched long pull spear master and spatula secondary blades and pearl handles with the Mentholatum etch at an antique store for $17.50.

Mint? No.

I traded it for a very nice Robeson Jimmie Allen two blade jack.

I'll tell you one thing, I could not get that Remington to the cashier fast enough. I wanted to finalize the sale before someone went, "Whoa!!" on it.

Been that route a couple of times Charlie. Once I was in an antique shop that never really had many knives and I spot this nice pearl handle amid a bunch of junk knives. Turned out to be a mint John Russell palette knife and with the 20% discount that weekend the price came to a huge SIX DOLLARS! I think I nearly set my wallet on fire dragging it out of my pocket.
Same thing many years later with a near mint Al Mar S.E.R.E folder for $20. Has to be a couple hundred dollar knife minimum.

At one time, early on, same thing could happen on Ebay. Probably not so much now.

I bought all three of these Robeson knives from the same seller at the same time, but in three separate auctions.

He had misspelled "Robeson". I think he had it as "Robinson"

The total cost of the three knives, including shipping and insurance to my front door, averaged $18.00 a knife.

Never happen again.

Great knives and an even greater score! Being in the right place and the right time and stretching the envelope a bit.

The ironic part is that in our current educational system they don't penalize for incorrect spelling. Apparently the real world still does.

Those are some super knives Charlie.

Those auctions were completed within the first year of Ebay's existence.

Not many folks were selling or buying old knives at that time.

Iknow what you mean about ebay in the first year. I won a New York Knife Co. sunfish with etched blade for under a hundred dollars. The blade was covered with something like tar. It cleaned right off, and there was a beautiful etch on the main blade. Full blades too. Never happen now.
