Auction update, the Kimber was a .380acp so I wasn't interested, if it had been the .38 super I might have been.
Overall prices were crazy high. A Ruger New Model Blackhawk .357 sold for $1300. For an $700-$800 gun.
The Iver Johnson was the 3rd Model with 4 cross pins so modern ammo could be shot in it. Tight lock up, rifling looked good,
but the cylinder was cracked

I still did buy it, why? Just because, might be able to find a cylinder, who knows? Guess I needed a project.
John Dillinger had a matched set of Colt 1911's in .38 Super. I used to have a picture of them somewhere . . . found it.

They sure did some crazy things with the Colt 1911 back in the early 1900's.

fergusontd,
An excellent graduation gift!
More graduates need to be exposed to the true side of gun ownership, the responsibility that comes with ownership and good pep talk on our nations 2nd Amendment!
You did good!

Wow Ferg, that's one heck of a graduation gift. I'd think anyone would be thrilled to receive that. By the way, I'm available for adoption. Just sayin...

it's a .22, my S-I-L bought it for him last year and kept it hid. Now he can shoot his own instead of my 1911 Colt! ftd

I've been wanting to replace a .38 Special that I had given to one of my grandsons on their 18 birthday, but you all know that guns and ammo have been had to come by in the past year or so. Sunday night I got an email from Academy Sports that they were back in stock, so I jumped on that immediately. It's a Taurus 856 Ultra-Lite .38 Special 6 shot with a 2" barrel. I also got the speed loader for it. Can't wait to get to the range with it.

This looks interesting. S&W 9mm Subcompact 1911, 6.9" total length and 26 oz. total weight, has an oversized external extractor, 3-hole curved trigger with over-travel stop, and ambidextrous thumb safety.

Yes, very interested in hearing the report. A few years back I had 2 different models of Taurus 22 rim fire revolvers. Neither of them worked past 100 rounds and had to go back to the factory.

Www.Smith-Wesson.com site says MSRP $1249. Haven’t looked for it yet at any gun shops but usually cheaper there (unless they’re a really hot item in short supply, like their M&P Shield was few years ago during Ohbummer’s reign). Looked online and found several reviews so it’s apparently been available for a while in both 9mm and .45. Here’s a quote from one reviewer”
I highly recommend this Smith and Wesson 1911 Pro Series sub-compact 9 mm pistol, for concealed carry, home defense, fun plinking, and even competitive shooting. This 1911 9mm is now ranked in my top 8 sub-compact 1911 9mms for carrying. I was very impressed with its accuracy and its very controllable recoil for a sub-compact 9mm.

Pricey, way out of my fixed income budget, but I do have lottery tickets, first time for everything.

I've paid that much of a couple of my handguns but not for a S&W semi-auto. a German Sig P210 was just under a grand and a H&K P7 that was over.
Do you feel the Performance Center is worth the extra $$$?

Ken, I have an “officer” sized Kimber with the alloy frame that I carry sometimes. It’s very light, but it sure handle and shoots well. I’m kinda surprised by the external extractor on that S&W though, that’s been more of a Sig thing.

In my humble opinion I would say, eh maybe. A buddy at church bought a S&W Performance center 9mm revolver two years ago. When it arrived it was terribly and I mean terribly out of time. You cocked the hammer then had to finish turning the cylinder by hand. And this was a brand new in the grease Performance Center Gun. He sent it back and they reworked it and made it right. But you’d think it would have been right out of the performance center?!
