Thank you for posting.

This afternoon, this pocket knife became the latest resident at the zoo. It is the second resident received from Morocco. It is a "GERMANY", 1 blade, 4 tool, "Deer Head" pocket knife. It is tang stamped "GERMANY" on both sides of the main blade. It appears that it's missing the bail, that doesn't concern me. It did need some cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Another nice addition to the Zoo Skip.

One of the things I like about these post, if you look back through them, you can see a definite although sometimes subtle change in the dye or mold used for the handles. There are definite differences in the Deer / Elk head in details in some. Then some are subtle differences in the backgrounds and depths of the patterns in the handles. The Heads I would think would be the difference in the carvings of the original molds. Some of the backgrounds I wonder if the differences are from cleaning wear of the molds through the years? Kind of like some details change in the U.S. Mint's coin dyes from cleaning. Either way, a interesting post.

The differences in the handle patterns and the animal head images.

Another nice addition Skip. I notice these last two you've posted have the old school style can opener like the one you posted back in early March. A lot of the others had the newer style can opener. Interesting. Could these be older builds?

I was wondering that myself. If I were to go just by appearance, then I'd say that the old
time opener is the older pattern. I didn't get anywhere researching the patterns. If you're

There's just one more resident on it's way from Lithuania. When it arrives, group pictures will be forthcoming.

This afternoon, I welcome to the zoo, this beast. This is a DECORA - SOLINGEN, MADE IN GERMANY, D.B.G.M., fixed blade, 4 tool, "Elk(?) Head" knife. I have both Imperial & Colonial fixed blade knives with "Moose/Elk/Caribou Head" handles, but NOT with any tools. This knife has the tools on the handle. It measures 9" total length and it DOES have some weight to it. It did come with, what I believe to be, the original sheath. This is only the second example of this pattern/style of fixed blade knife that I have in my collection. The other example is on page 35 and are the last two pictures below. It did need some cleaning.

Very nice Skip. Another fine addition to the zoo. I don't what cleaning you had to do, but the knife looks great. Also one with the tools in the handle is a great find.

As for dating, I had researched the differences in the markings of D.B.G.M. and D.R.G.M. a few years ago. The D.B.G.M. came during the reconstruction period of Germany after WW-II. The U.S. along with the newly formed United Nations helped with funding and rebuild along with founding many of the Monitary and Corporate regulatory regulations. Here is some of what I found. During Allied occupation up until 1949, registration procedures remained untouched and still used the D.R.G.M. registration documents. The registration itself was valid for three years, which of course explains why D.R.G.M. marks can be found on products actually manufactured up until 1952. As from the end of October 1952, registered items were marked under the term Deutsches Bundesgebrauchsmuster (D.B.G.M.). So your knife could be closer to 1952.

I also like the construction of the Sheath. It was probably done by the same craftsmen that worked in the factories that produced German Bayonets and their sheaths during WW-II. Very similar construction on the sheath, the binding or seam on the rear is almost identical to many German Bayonet Sheaths. Again, very nice fixed blade!!

Congrats Skip. Another nice addition to the Zoo of this pattern. I've been looking at all the different types of deer head designs of this particular style knife. I believe this one, which I have termed as the Small Deer head 6 point rack, is only the 4th of this particular head, you've added to the zoo. It's interesting to me of the different design heads by the different manufacturers.

Again, very nice. Soooooo........is this the one you were waiting on before doing the group photo update???? Looking forward to it!
