Nice feathers! I have 2 projects I’m working on that I’ve kind of stalled with. Hopefully I’ll pick the knife up again soon.

Thanks. I had to carve something for some stress relief. It had been to long.

Thanks. Yes they are. A little tricky if you want to put a wave in the side and getting them somewhat thin but very fun and easy the way I carve them.

Nice! I thought about a book mark. I have an idea for a soaring eagle carved like these.

Carved out of pine. Oiled and waiting for paint. Thinking either a Uncle Sam or Abe Lincoln look.

The June whittling challenge on Reddit r/whittling was an hourglass. Mine was made from a white pine 2x4 split and carved cylindrical. All hand tools mostly knife work. Very little sanding then walnut stain on the stand portion and feed n’ wax on the hourglass body. The hourglass is carved free like a ball in cage. The majority was done while at scout camp when the boys were in class rotations. While at camp I also made a bunch of wands for the boys at night.

Very cool idea and we'll executed. And the stain completes it.

Thanks. I tried something new with the staining and got a 3cc syringe from the feed store, dulled the tip on the grinder and suckled the stain in the syringe. I used the needle to apply the stain so I could control it well enough to got get it on the glass.

I had discovered that I had a few swan cutouts a while back that I had forgotten about. These are 2/5 scale and are about 14 inches beak to tail. I made a few of these about 10 years ago and at that time I used a Rustoleum product to make a "crackle" antique finish on the swans. That product is no longer available and to tell the truth it did not work that well. You never knew what you were going to get, temp, humidity, whether the sprayed on coat was thin or thick would vary the effect greatly. Sometimes it did not crackle at all. So a few weeks ago I was looking on the internet for alternatives and ran across a Youtube video of a way to produce a crackled finish. It seems to work great. A spray primer is used first in the color that you want to show thru the crackles, then a coat of Elmers white glue is brushed on, then QUICKLY the antique white paint is brushed on over the glue before it has dried. This results in the water base glue having a coat of water based paint on top, while both are wet. The glue and the paint dry at different rates and the result is a crazed or crackled finish. If the antique white paint is applied with a thin coat, small fine crackles result. If it is applied heavier, the large crackles appear. Just the effect I was looking for.

Nice work and I like the way the finish turned out. You never wipe the glue off, it stays on? I wonder how that would work out if it go wet or a liquid cleaner sprayed on later to remove dust ect.?

2 coats of clear acrylic are put on last to seal the surface.
