Resin rich pine. Some call it lighter knot, pine knot, etc. Most commonly referred to "fatwood" in the bushcraft circle.

Thanks, gents. It almost seemed silly to include the PM2 with the stag slipjoints but it hasn't gotten enough love lately so I decided to let it out in the sun for a while.

Got a question for jmh58.
John, looking at your last picture again, the one with the GEC 71, what sort of timber is in the picture? Floyd had mentioned "stump" in his response and that got me to wondering since we are seeing a saw cut end on that piece of wood and an almost flat side where your pretty knife is resting. ::shrug::

Philip.. I do not know know.. Sorry.. That pic was taken in a State Park along a trail.. That tree must have blown down and blocked the trail.. Cut to remove.. There is a lot of Poplar, Maple and Oak there.. ::shrug::

My 1975 Case Barlow at the covered bridge at Burfordvill Missouri. I got married at this bridge 17 years ago. There are four covered bridges left in Missouri and this one is the longest. Thanks for looking! :)

Nice Barlow, beautiful bridge (took the family there a couple of years ago, went into that little white house/antique shop and bought a knife), and YES we had a gorgeous day in SEMO!

Thanks TW!! Yes I have been in that little antique shop a time or two. My wife's folks have a farm about 6 miles up the road. The place is special to both of us. Hope you got out and enjoyed the day! :)
