If you own a Camillus you probably have one of these.

carrmillus wrote:jerry, after further exam.,comparing it to a camillus of the same period, the handle pins are in the same position, the profile of all 3 blades looks identical, liners same thickness, nail nicks in the secondary blades look identical, i think maybe it is made by camillus-still wondering about the united cutlery brand, sevierville,tn.-maybe smkw had camillus make them to resell to stanley???.... ::shrug:: .......
With the matchstrike pulls and the handle pins in the same position as the Camillus, I feel reasonably certain they're Camillus SFO's. Maybe SMKW has the rights to the Stanley name or some kind of agreement with Stanley. ::shrug::

You are right, made by Camillus. ::tu::
I am pretty sure I have one also. Nice trappers.

Don't confuse me WB. I thought I knew what I wanted but now I'm not sure. ::hmm:: ::doh:: ::dang::

I still have five open spaces in the folder if I move the little #70 somewhere else. Now that I think about it, there are probably several variations I don't have. Just saw a white handled Boy Scout 72 go on eBay for $131+. Sweet Jesus.

Another problem is, I've started eyeing (and acquiring) the true whittlers (with split backspring) in the swell center/balloon pattern. I think I'm hosed.

Oh, Lord. Am I becoming a (gasp) collector?

jerry, that's a good looking whittler collection!!!-i have an extra knife roll that holds 36 if you fill that one up!!....i'm looking for the black split-spring to make sure you're keeping it in good condition-is that it at the bottom right?????...........

Jerry, those split-springs are seductive - watch out!

John -- Good eye (especially for such a lousy picture). I have the Alpha and Omega together. It's silly but it means something to me, plus for some crazy reason, it reminds me where they came from.

Colonel -- I think I hear the Siren's song.

jerry, i can spot one of those split backspring whittlers 100 yds. away at a flea market, but , i have trouble finding my slippers in the morning!!!....the white boy scout knife you mentioned....are you talking about the whittler with the(i call it ivory) colored delrin handles??..i have one that has the slanted camillus, underlined tang stamp. don't ever recall seeing one with an earlier tang stamp- i know they didn't have 'em when i was in the bsa(1949-52)!!!....i think what you need in that collection is one of the "prototype"- "yello-jaket" whittlers..... ::ds:: ........

Now see there, I can tell by the tone in your voice, you're regrettin' not buyin' that little beauty!! It could've been yours, and now somebody else is fondling her!
You know, "damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead", "pull the trigger, never hesitate", all that good stuff?
You know, some people have to pay big money for someone to give 'em all this good advice? And, here I am giving it to ya for free. But, that's just the kinda guy I am, generous to a fault!

jerry, look on this forum-my camiilus collection thread-look at the whittler collection photo -7th row- first knife is a standard yello-jaket whittler-3rd from left is what i call the prototype, it has the staglon handles with the clear bubble shield with the yello-jaket underneath. also has the yello-jaket blade etch. also, last knife on this row-went back and looked at this knife after we were talking about the SL6-this knife has staglon handles, round camillus shield,no handle pins. tang stamp is faint camillus surrounded by a rectangular box with the corners scalloped off, back of master is stamped 3line exactly like the SL6!!-also has a much shorter clip and coping blade(coping blade is on same end as master-they meet at the centerline of the knife!!....coping blade s much wider than normal, and the small clip blade has an easy-open scallop ...probably knew all this at one time and just forgot!!!!....one of t. j.'s brain farts!!!.... ::ds:: ............first knife on the 8th row is my white bsa knife...............

Image That white handle scout knife sold high

I went into an old hardware store about 10 years ago and they had 4 of these on the shelf for sale all the same vintage as the one that sold, they were priced around $25 each as I recall.

I was not interested in "New" knives so I left them right there ::doh::
