All About Pocket Knives

In a pawn shop in Panama City today, I found a display case mostly full of wonderful imported knives . However there were a few that looked to be more domesticated than the majority.
One was a 3 bladed stockman pattern Queen with I believe is a '72-'75 stamp. Blades all need work and the master needs to be lowered a tad. This knife even has concrete in the nail nicks . The other is a Keen Kutter lock back, I figure it was made by Bear, pretty good shape, used but still has the etch on the blade. The tang stamp has the number 92 in it, I assume that is the year of manufacture (y'all know what happens when you assume something ).

Was in the neighborhood so I stopped in at my local brick & mortar knife store today to see if the proprietor is still alive (old Marine with health problems). Was glad to find out, he's still sucking air and raising a fuss.

Wandered around a little and found this in the $5.00 bucket. Sure glad I had a five dollar bill in my pocket. No clue how it ended up in the $5.00 bucket but I'm glad it did. It's my first John Primble and once I got it cleaned up and oiled I discovered it's in really good condition. The blades are full with no pitting and no cracks in the bone handles. The auxiliary blades (can opener & screwdriver/cap lifter) have their original shine. Two piece can opener and the bone handles puts it back somewhere in the 1950 era or so. (I think)

It's a 3335 * Anyone know what the star stood for? There's no country of origin stamped on it anywhere. I really like it. The picture is pre-cleaning.

I found this in a keepsake box yesterday. Box is 18 x 24 x 4 packed with mildewed papers, photos, patches, a US flag, other things and this trench art boot knife & sheath.

I believe the individual was in the Navy.

I can't prove it, but I believe Primbles with a star were made by Boker.

The Mail came today with a few knives I been looking searching for.

The Parker Signature Series made in Seki Japan are very had to find, and I've been seaching for a long time for this teardrop model K-345, A few have shown up on the bay at $100 plus, they were not NOS. I scored when this seller had 2 of them that were NOS.

I also picked up a 1993 Schatt & Morgan Swing Guard "File and Wire" Model 06181L. It was also NOS. Looking in Blade's Guide to Knives and Their Value 7th Edition its showing that the 1993 Schatt & Morgan Swing Guard "File and Wire" Model 06181L was a short run of only 50. ???

Am I reading that correct ? Can anyone verify that there were only 50 made. ???

Edit: I hate to keep going on and on about this knife but I can't keep my hands off it. I was just sitting here fondling it and decided to take a closer look with the magnifying glass. There are the remains of a blade etch on the main. All I could make out was the word "Steel". Then I looked at the edge. THIS SUCKER STILL HAS THE FACTORY GRIND ON BOTH BLADES. IT'S BEEN USED BUT NEVER SHARPENED!!!

Gary, Dan & Tracey are a great couple to do business with. They impressed the heck out of me the first time I did business with them. They had a knife that was hard to find and I really wanted badly but they were just leaving to go out of town for the weekend. They delayed their trip long enough to get the knife packaged up and drop it at the post office. That's some small town mid-western kind of service right there.

This is the knife. Ain't she a beauty?

Wow guys, nice knives and good deals. I almost changed my mind on even mentioning this old 6 function horn job I found in an antique shop. Whatever name it ever had is long gone. I'm guessing French, maybe but less likely German. I threw the other one in the picture because it just seemed to fit. A friend gave me that one, which is probably what it's worth, but still an old interesting knife, also probably French. I think they called these penny knives (no backspring like an Openiel).___Dave

Jerry, I can see why you enjoy fondling your Primble - nice knife. Here is a Primble Jack, made by Boker USA - you can see what the blade etch looked like on the knives they built for Belknap. OH

Really nice Primbkes Cuz and OH! I too have always been told the ones with a star were made by Boker USA.

Cud the etch probable read something like "Best India Steel". Primble was the house brand for Belknap Hardware in Louisville, KY. They also varied the Bluegrass brand as well, and I believe Pine Knot.
