Chris, thanks for mentioning your generator. We haven't exercised ours for a couple of months. It is important to have an auxiliary power source when you live out in the country. We've used our generator to work lots of off grid projects and even places that didn't have sufficient amperage to run a compressor for a nail gun, the old gal helped us survive for about 11 days during Hurricane Michael, usually 1 or 2 pulls and it runs. We usually run it for 5 minutes, shut off the gas and let it run out of fuel. We've thought about a whole house generator for several years but just never pulled the trigger. Next big storm, I'll regret not doing so.
Workday went well, got hot and tired. Always something to do around Starvation Plantation.
Tonight is the opening of the annual Watermelon Festival, concert at the ball park, a big parade tomorrow, car show and a big Watermelon contest. Funny thing about this, there are hardly any watermelons grown commercially any more! Years ago watermelons were a big deal, buyers and big trucks everywhere. Watermelons for sale on every street corner. Watermelons were and are labor intensive, kinda like working a hay field only more so. I remember our last two watermelon crops, next to the last one went pretty good except for the last clipping. My partner in crime that year turned down 2 cents a pound for the last load. He suggested we move them to his place out on US 90 where a buyer would see them as the season was winding down. We moved the melons, the buyers didn't raise the price, we ended up feeding them to our cows and hogs. Next season, I grew a smaller patch without my partner and ended up having to hire a neighbor to supervise the clipping, loading and sales because I was recovering from a hernia repair. That ended my watermelon career. About that same time, coyotes were becoming more prominent and they would bite the small melons and ruin them, not all but enough to irritate the growers.
Chased enough rabbits this morning, y'all enjoy the day, stay hydrated if you're going to be out in the heat!

Morning folks, 71 the low heading to the mid 80's, rain just to West and north looks to be petering out the closer it gets, sure would be nice to get enough to keep me from dragging thet old hose pipe around.
Wampus was on his throne got up and ate went back to resting, he seems to be good at eating, resting and chasing the ladies.
Buddies day at Hooters maybe some yard work afterwards.
I the grass cut yestiddy afternoon after the ladies left.
Ike you’re sure right but it had to be done, turned out not to bad heat wise, had a big bottle of water with me and drank often. Like Farmer said above it's real important to stay hydrated, especially us older folk.

Well, the past week has been interesting, NOT!
Started with explosive diarrhea last weekend, I should have got to the doctor on Monday but honestly I was scared. Same symptoms that led to my late husband’s diagnosis of stage 4 cancer. Finally went to doctor late Wednesday afternoon, had a bunch of lab tests and X-rays. Just got home and doctor called and told me to get to the ER for CT scan, don’t eat of drink anything. OK. Spent the next 5 hours there CT, more labs and 2 IVs because I was dehydrated. Finally a diagnosis of diverticulitis. No idea why now, I hadn’t eaten any of normal trigger foods. Guess s*** happens! Have antibiotics to take for 10 days and bland diet for week or so.
Sorry for the big dump , lol!

Boji I'm glad to hear from you but I'm sorry to learn about your ailment. I hope you'll follow your doctors instructions closely because something like what your dealing with can really take a toll.

Phil thanks for sharing a little about the watermelon business. I find things like that to be very interesting. Whenever we travel I like seeing all the various crops being grown in that region.

My contractor was scheduled to start work on the garage yesterday, but he called and begged off starting till Monday. I've waited several years to get this garage built so I guess waiting a couple more days to get started won't kill me.

I met with my cardiologist yesterday, and as expected, he said I need to have a heart valve replacement done. I'm not sure when that will take place but I'm sure there will be a bunch of tests conducted first. I'm hoping to hear from his staff today on scheduling details.

Good morning. 52 with high of 76 today under mostly sunny sky. Our nights have been steadily cool this year and we have seen very little hot muggy days which is fine fir me. Next week we are supposed to be seeing a fair amount of rain, but even that has been light events except for one gusher a few weeks ago. I have Bible study this morning here at our house, still on Genesis with about 6 or 7 guys. I'll likely spend the rest of the day trying to get the kitchen laminate floor laid and maybe doing a little lawn work. I sure could use a good knife show. I think the Cambridge Antique show is in a few weeks and that should help my knife drought. It's been months since I've even felt like a collector. Have a good weekend. ______Dave

Yesterday's posts here on the 1sr cup diner keep revealing how fragile life really is. Miss Boji, sure hope you over your diverticulitis quickly and easily. Diverticulitis was what we were expecting last year about this time when Miss Joy started having tummy aches. Philco, a heart valve replacement seems like a common procedure anymore, used to wonder how the doctors could do such things through arteries. Praying y'all will get the healing you desire.
Thermometer is showing 72° for our low this morning, yesterday's half day rain kept our high down to 83° and put 0.5 inches in the gauge. Needless to say, we didn't get any mowing done.
Checked the deer feeder in the afternoon and it's almost empty. Game cameras are still running but no interesting/unusual pictures to share.
Spent the evening making some copies of the eulogy I did for my brother-in-law's funeral back in February. His wife asked if she could have the original pages. Yes but I had made several last minute changes with notes/scribbling that probably wouldn't make sense to a reader so in addition to the original, I made a corrected version written out in long hand for her. Need to get that to the post office this morning before the Watermelon Festival parade blocks the streets at 10am.
If my old truck will start, I'll go to the feed store on the way home and get 250 # of shelled corn for Bambi's momma to snack on for the next few months. The deer enjoy the corn in the winter along with whatever winter forage we plant for them. As soon as things begin to green up in late winter the corn feeder doesn't interest them very much. Still available they stop by for a snack all along during the summer.
Coffee was good, the "feel like" temperatures are supposed to around 108° today, we'll know this evening it that happened.

Watermelons, back in the early 60’s my boyfriend and I sold 2 truckloads of Texas Black Diamond watermelons at the country fair. A lot of work but we each made $200. That was a lot of money back then!
Feeling better and managed to get some stuff done.
Yesterday morning had a tree crew here thinned one of huge maple trees, they will be back today to overhaul the other one, it needs one of big trunks sections removed. I have carefully watched the tree when we have high winds and that one moves and the other parts don’t plus it hangs over the house. Afternoon was a plumber to replace the outdoor water faucet that was so corroded that it wouldn’t turn on. Now need to get the power washer out and clean the deck and outdoor furniture. Hopefully I can do it myself and not have hire it done.

Phil, with all of the heart and lung procedures I went through this past 6 months I think I know some of what you might be thinking and feeling.I will be putting you and Boji on my prayer list.

Morning folks, 75 heading to the mid 80's, Henry the weekend guesser sez some strong storms heading our way, the rain yestiddy petered out before it got here light sprinke here now.
Wampus was a repeat of yestiddy.
Grandson is putting on a feed and little fireworks show for his high school buddies late today, Nana and Pa and cousin Marilyn are invited. This weather may put a damper on that.
May try to get the trash together and get it to the dump before the bad weather arrives, if not it ain't no big thing.
Boji hope you feel better soon, the boss and l got to eating this bagged popcorn that someone told her about and we enjoyed it a bought a couple more bags, first thing you know her diverticulitis is acting up and it was aggravating me also, we quit and things returned to normal. The birds enjoyed what was left.
Philco hope everything goes well with this heart valve thing. My old heart runs up and down like a noisy old woman's windowshade.

76° this morning. No rain yesterday, 88 was the high, the feel like was up over 100.
Had a busy day, my old truck started (battery disconnect switch works), went to farm supply for shelled corn, the pharmacy/gun shop picked up a Rx, made it to the post office before the detours were set for the watermelon parade and back to Starvation Plantation before 10am. Actually got to use the front axle on the old Ford, the woods are wet again. Filled the feeder and then mowed till about 1:30. Good nap after dinner and I was shot for the rest of the day.
Coffee tastes good this morning. A little breakfast, a shower and it will be time for church. Today's Sunday dinner is going to be a couple of tomato sandwiches made with Dukes mayonnaise! (that would have gotten a rise from Jerryd years ago).
Hope y'all can make it to worship service today.

Good morning Phil and all who wander in. 59 to start the day and should get close to 70 later with, maybe a shower or two. We tore off some roofing on the second-floor library and I hope we covered it well enough to repel any rain that does come down. I got a little more done on the laminate floor but still have a way to go. I spred some floor leveler on one area and it got walked on 4 times (Jason once, Gypsy once, and Jane twice) before it set enough to walk on. Church is in a few hours and I'm hoping for some light rain so Jason won't want to spend the afternoon on the roof instead of using the day for what God intended. Have a wonderful Sunday. _____Dave

Good morning folks . Have an outdoors church service today and of course a chance of rain. Then hooking up the boat and heading up to Hayward area to get some Solo fishing in . Which rarely happens but am looking forward to the quiet time. Not much for crowds and a lot of chatter so this trip will be able to do some scouting and checking out spots I won’t go in with a boat load of people . Today’s temps not bad but starting Monday they’re saying Tropical . We don’t do tropical well up here so being on the lake will be good timing . You all stay cool out there and try to have a good day.

Storm warnings, followed by heat warnings later. Guess summer has finally arrived The tourists are here, traffic yesterday looked like 4th of July.
Trees got trimmed yesterday initial quote was $1200, cash deal. $800. Love being able to make cash deals with local small guys.
Grandson can’t come today to power wash stuff, oh well, the rain will wash away the worst of grim.
Gotta get laundry caught up and house cleaned a bit cuz I work Monday and Tuesday then company comes on Wednesday. And figure out what to feed everybody and get necessary groceries in a day or two.
Time to get busy!

73° as the sun comes up, we recorded 90° yesterday, a good afternoon to enjoy the heatpump and the recliner. Church was good, school teacher daughter visited for a couple of hours late in the afternoon. We walked down to the branch, staying on the road to avoid the mosquitoes. The walk is good for the mini-dachshund and me. Our other children and their families were in the Gulf, one bunch down in Venice, the other east of us on the "forgotten coast" at Carrabelle.
Coffee is good, zeroturn s calling my name, again.

Good morning. It's a gloomy depressing day and the week looks like it may not be much to look forward to with heat and rain coming back and forth. We have to get going on a solid wood hickory floor that we have to have done in about a week, and we have been putting off a small job that has been getting pushed back for about a month that really needs to get done. The roof area we tore off Saturday on our house will shed rain as long as wind doesn't mess it up, so that can't sit very long before we have problems on the home front. I'm getting tired just thinking about the week ahead and the Bible tells me to not get anxious about tomorrows problems, so I suppose it's time to stop drinking coffee and messing with my laptop and get to work. Morning all! I would have preferred to sleep a bit longer but guess I’m up for the day. Just checked the weather, 76 and 97% humidity. Ugh! High somewhere in the 90’s.
Work today at the collectibles shop. Then a grocery run. Probably the only outside I’ll do will be filling bird feeders.
Feel much better but still need to be very careful what I eat.
Coffee is good, couple of eggs a little later.

We just watched a very large black bear wander through our back yard and circle around our house and walk up and climb into my dump trailer looking for garbage, which he did find last week. We cleaned up that mess on Saturday. Today he only found shingles, so he wandered off to check out what the neighbors left out for him to snack on._____Dave

Morning folks, 72 the low mid 90's later on, heat index well over a 100. Old fat man is gonna try to stay hydrated and cool.
Wampus was awol yestiddy as was I from fdc, but we're back this morning with bells on.
The boss had a bad night sleeping so she had the watering done and wampus fed by the time I got up at 6:30 a.m. don't rightly know what if anything I'll get into today, really don't have anything pressing, we missed out on the rain that flooded portions of our neighbor's to the north. Richmond in Madison county was hit by flash flooding that resulted 4 deaths. Pray for those fine folks .
We were supposed to have roofing material delivered today for a new roof but my roofer call and said he wanted to put it off because of the extreme heat, which is fine by us.
Grandson had a fine get together for friends he graduated high school with Saturday night with grilled hamburger, hotdogs, brats and shrimp, those young folks brought potluck dishes and somes delicious deserts. The boss had deviled eggs and shell salad and we provided the shrimp and boy did we have a fine time, I was stuffed, then they put on a fine fireworks display.
My nephew came yestiddy and grilled hamburgers and brats and I pigged out again.
Hope yawl have a good'un and be careful out there. hydrate, hydrate and then hydrate some more.

Good morning diner. I'm coming at you this morning live from the third row of seats of my van. Yep, I'm having my coffee and some cinnamon raisin sourdough from the way back of my van, sitting next to my five year old and behind his two brothers. It's quite relaxing. A bit jauntier of a ride back here. Might need some suspension work, feels a bit floaty.

I gave up my spot riding shotgun to my sister. She's along for the ride out to Manitowoc. We have the bikes on the rack on the back, and one in between the seats. We'll bike along the lake Michigan coast for 5 miles, have lunch, bike back, then hit the beach. We've timed it so we'll see the SS Badger arrive.

We're under extreme heat warnings. The humidity is egregious. My boys have my thick northern blood like me. We all have sweat-points (as I've termed it) of around 75 degrees. A ten mile bike ride might sound more like suicide, but we're actually leaving the heat behind and heading for one of the largest air conditioners in the world. I expect temperatures ten degrees lower than that of those inland, steady refreshing winds, and exquisite views

That sounds like a great way to spend the day, Zach. I've watched the Badger arrive and depart a couple of times, but have never taken it across the lake. I remember your pics from last year(?) Of your trip back from Ludington. Take some pics today and post them, if you are able to squeeze that in.

I am trying to convince my wife that we need to leave these miserable 90 degree temps here and head North. When we lived in Michigan, we were about a quarter of a mile from Lake Michigan. Our house was shaded by mature trees and with the near constant breeze off of the lake, we never ran the a/c.
