I consider that a "live" teaching moment about the importance of a sharp knife vs. the wound that a dull one would have left. I'm glad your missions continue Scott and that it also contributes to your health - that's a two-fer in my book!

Just got new bunks and hardware installed on my boat lift, along with some badly needed maintenance. Brought my boat down and got it in the lift this past Thursday. Yesterday was very nice, a sunny 70°, so my wife suggested we take the boat out into the intercoastal waterway and ride a bit - did that, then came back and fished in the creek near our house - didn’t catch anything but it was a day of firsts as we discover and learn the water in our new home area. OH

Looks like y'all were having a great day!

You need to explain what the word "sunny" means, seems like we used to hear about that here in the Florida Panhandle.

I know what you mean Phil, just heard we have had over 100" of rain this year (two days left - it's raining again today). 100" breaks all records since they began keeping records. Our realtor posted this on her site - "All about 2018 - it rained!" OH

OH - that looks like a very nice location. Some of our best fishing days are this time of year ... except the weather has made it hard this year.

Same here in Alabama! Just this morning I was looking out at the back yard and told my wife that I had not seen any precipitation. As I spoke those ill considered words the first drops started falling. Mostly it is a misty sprinkle here, with the occasional downpour. I am really glad I did some kayaking on the rivers in the autumn, because my two favorite rivers are ten feet above where I like them.

Bruce, I forgot about Hurricane Florence, y'all had one before Michael passed by.

100" is a bunch of water!

I’ve been fighting Beavers on our property for years and 2019 is no different. I busted a dam yesterday and tonight I’m laying in wait for them to start building it back

Beavers are the gift that keep on giving! We fight them unrelentingly on one farm pond. OH

On a few occasions as a surveyor I have tried to break beaver dams using a bush axe. My take is that it is hard work to demolish what the beavers have built! Seems like beaver dams are cottonmouth moccasins favorite of all habitats, too.

Mel, I never thought about Cottonmouths

I will use Tannerite from now on.

Larry, that looks like a very strong flow through that breech in the dam. Have you had any rain in Southeast Mississippi lately? (That is intended as a joke)
A couple of years ago I was kayaking along a backwater bayou in the Pascagoula River swamp and I started hearing a water fall. I had kayaked that stretch many times, but not for a few years, so I was thinking:
There ain't never been any waterfall on this bayou before, so what the h--l am I hearing. Well, when I got to it, it was a beaver dam that had a pretty substantial slough backed up to about a two foot head of water. I slid up to that dam and kind of debated on shooting it in my kayak, but decided that might not be wise, what with me being an old man and the nearest human quite a ways away if I had problems. So I turned around. The next year the dam was gone like it had never been.

Got out for the last thirty minutes of shooting time today. No birds taken, but we did have speckled bellies dive bomb our spread. Flared at the last second, so no shots. Heart pumping. Enjoyed the time with my son. He goes to college this fall, squeezing in every opportunity we can find.
We are still learning, and adding to our ‘spread.’
