All About Pocket Knives

I fell in love with that White Hunter in about 1960, shortly after they first came out. It took me 40 years to fulfill my dream of owning one. I agree with you Colonel. They are fine looking knives.

I looked up the smooth white Case XX knife that I pictured on this thread in Steve Pfeiffer's book. The knife has no pattern number on it, but I found it in the Case book anyway and Steve had some interesting info on it. It's a 4231 1/2 pattern, 3 3/4 inches long, not listed in any old Case catalogs so it was probably a special order. It's rare but there are a few of them out there usually with advertising stamped into the scales. The scales are some sort of composition with almost a paper micarda look. It has a fine grain running the length of each scale but not as defined as French ivory. It appears I did OK paying $29 for it. If you have any interest in Case knives, and I haven't seen many knife collectors who don't, Steve Pfeiffer's book "Collecting Case Knives" is a resource you absolutely need to own. ___Dave

Colonel, That might be a little boring for the most part. I usually stumble onto things by pure dumb luck. The shop I found these knives in has been a good one for me though. Last fall we were traveling through there and I found a pile of knives including the old Schrade Farmers jack I put on "knife find of the Day" that I paid around $10 for. If the shop wasn't a couple hours away I'd stop there more often. All the good shops around here are gone and it's too cold for flea markets and outdoor shows so this time of the year I should be following you around. ___Dave
