I'm curious if you got your Moose from SMKW or another vendor? Every one I got from SMKW has been perfect. The only QC issues I've run into were ones I bought from ebay. Some were perfect (as far as RR standards) and some were sub par but still acceptable (slight cosmetic issues but good blades). I found the same issue with current Marble's knives. Three I got from SMKW are awesome (another due on Saturday). You won't be disappointed. They have beautiful bone and it shaves right out of the box. I've been thinking about getting the stockman in that handle.

All those tobacco road knives are nice, the intricate work on them at the price point is unbelievable.
