Isn't Memorial Day the traditional 1st day of planting? Seems like the possibility of frost still lingers...

Of course I have nothing to plant....just going on memory.

Depends on what zone you're in, Scott. And that's based on average day of last frost.
Here in my neck of the woods May 1, give or take a week.

What is going on with the radishes? My wife planted radishes yesterday while I was mowing, and I see that David and Mike both planted them. I am okay with a radish now and then, but I have never planted them! Those are nice looking garden plots that you fellows have.

Scott, there are some crops that you can plant outside safely even ahead of the last frost date, such as peas, carrots, chard, kale, etc. These are cool weather crops, and the sooner you get the seeds in the better, as they will then have more of the cooler spring temperatures to mature before summer hits.
Radishes generally have a short germination period and will sometimes produce inside of three weeks. They benefit from cooler weather too, and get pithy in warm weather. I dont eat a ton of radishes, but do like them fresh out of the garden, sliced, with a little salt and pepper. Maybe dipped into a little green goddess dressing or ranch, or shredded on a salad.

I did a little planting today, Rainbow Swiss Chard, a couple different kinds of radishes, and some carrots.
Peas went in a few days ago.

Looks like your getting a good start on your garden Mike. I dont have my own garden since I moved to town so I help mom with hers. i buy most the seed and and help out when I'm over there. The garden looked okay yesterday when I was over ther. Got a shower Saturday evening so the ground was to wet to do any thing.

Seems like the Blueberries are bigger these days ...

Well those are either some GIANT blueberries, or one tiny knife!
Winter about ready to return to Wisconsin, just as the crocus and daffodils are blooming of course. Had to tuck them in with some leaf mulch and milk crates, hope they can ride it out.

Okay, you are too smart for me. The blueberries are big, but the knife is tiny! I think we are done with winter here on the Gulf Coast. I hope we get another cool snap or two, but I do not expect frost again. I am kind of amazed: the radishes that my wife planted on Saturday have already sprouted. I guess it is radish weather here.

The Mulberry tree next to the raised beds is going nuts! The hurricane didn't uproot it but pushed all limbs to the south side of the tree, it's a bit lopsided but has been producing an overabundance of berries. You don't need a knife to harvest them but just to comply with the thread's title, "Harvest Time Knives!!", let it be known I had my Queen #49 in my pocket when I took the pictures.
This tree came from a cutting from Miss Joy's dad's tree which came from a cutting from his mothers tree, almost an heirloom, maybe. The birds are enjoying the Mulberries, we are enjoying them and every evening about 9pm the mini-Dachshund runs out and trees something in it. He stays for a while and then comes back to the front door.
Both of our families used to make Mulberry cobblers when we were kids, for some reason I guess we can't find the time. Treefarmer

Tasty find, Scott. It is that time of year here on the Gulf Coast. Yesterday I had hot blackberry cobbler with ice cream topping when I visited my sister. Real Americana for us folks who grew up in the rural South.

I like that knife too. Ebony handles are one of my favorites.

Nice berry pics, Phillip and Scott! Love me some fresh picked berries when I can get them.

Thought I'd show a few pictures of the raised beds as they are beginning to grow. Hope to plant a patch of Zipper Cream peas with the tractor in a day or so.

Everything sure is coming along nicely Phillip, you are waaaaay far ahead of us here in Wisconsin. High temps all this week only around 50 degrees, no tomatoes or peppers even in the ground yet!
The tulips are blooming though...

Mornin' guys. I picked my first tomatoes this past weekend. Gotta get 'em early or the Mockingbirds beat me to 'em.

Park Ranger took me out to the Blackberry patch yesterday.
I got tore up by prickers, pickin' 'em, but they are sooooooooooo sweet and tasty!!

Blackberries share their berries very grudgingly! They take their pound of flesh but yes they are sooooooooooo good.

Those blackberries look outstanding Scott, love 'em! Here are the first edibles out of my garden this year, had to thin out the radishes a bit. Tiny, but tasty, now the others have room to grow.

Pic of the garden last week. Ground is wet from all the rain. It was about dried out and now its rained again and suppose to rain all next week.

Got a few pictures of the garden's progress. The raised beds are doing well, been getting a few straight necked yellow squash. Planted Purple Hull southern peas last Thursday and they are already coming up. 4 days after planting and already showing 2 leaves. Good seed, the right soil temperature and of course good moisture always amazes me when your gone for a few days and when you get back you can see the new plants in the rows from one end to the other!

A little late, but the garden is in.
This is our first gardening attempt, so we went easy with the containers. Three of each: Big Boy tomatoes, Sweet Candy Apple sweet peppers, and Ring Leader jalapenos.
If it goes well, we'll do six containers next year.
The Leatherman was issued to us guys on the flight line back around '97, '98.
