I picked up two #72'sthis week as well from eBay. One was a package deal with three other knives and the other sold separately.
The second 72, the one by itself has a short line under the name and the handles are bone that are pocket worn smooth. Both have decent snap left to the blades.

All total spent was about $35. with S&H included.

There is something special about the bone handle 72 and the price you paid for the knives was reasonable.Some of the seller on EBay want more than you paid to post to Australia.

........shearer, that's the first short-line I've seen with that blade arrangement. i'll have to dig mine out to be sure, but I've got 5 short-line, bone handled 72's that have a pen blade paired with the master clip blade, and the coping blade is on the opposite end................ ........................

....o.k., I stand corrected again, one of my short line 72's is like this one,jerry, the other 4 have the clip master paired with the pen blade and the coping blade on the opposite end!...correct me if i'm wrong, but I think the clip/pen configuration is the older of the two, right???........... .....

You are correct and unless I'm mistaken the gen one blade configuration (as I call it) only lasted the first couple of years after that pattern was introduced, 1946 & 1947. I could be wrong but the 1948 catalog shows 2nd gen blade config. for the 72 (coping paired with the main blade and small clip balde by it's self on the bottom end).

Received these two in the mail Friday. 1047 scout. I might rehandle. The blade have not been sharpened.
Ulster 63.Well used, has the 63 stamped on the back of the blade

That Cammie sure is worthy of a re-handle. The blades look Grrrrrrrr8 I have three 1047's that have been re-handled and they look great

Yeah, I tried to talk him out of it for a project I have in mind but he's way too smart to let go of it. Good catches Grant.

You have to wonder what goes through people's minds. I looked at the other listings and of 162 listings, only four were knives (including this one) He has an Ulster Scout that looks pretty close to factory, which has an opening price of $37.50. Almost all 162 of his listings are Scout related.

The $275 Camillus 1047 is a mess (mostly it's the hack job on the main blade). My opinion, in it's current condition, $5 - $15 on it's best day.

Received two 72 in the mail today and a Kutmaster.
(1)First generation bone saber grind on both sides of main blade and 72 on back.
(2)Bone Saber grind one side no number,no shield ( this could have been one with boy scouts etched on blade.I have one with the etching on the blade )
(3)Kutmaster Utica N.Y. USA .Has some problems. Crack both side in Delrin handle at center pin and soft snap on main blade

Really good finds Grant. That first bone handle is sweet to the max.

carrmillus I purchased the two of the one seller.He had very bad pictures and did not sell them.I sent him a message and he relisted them at buy it now price.I paid $82 for the two delivered to Australia.They are both in very good condition.The first generation one is saber grind on both sides.The other first generation one I have only has the saber grind on one side.

Grant -- That's a decent deal you got on those two. The listings must have been a pretty poor because I didn't even see them and I search on "Camillus 72", "Camillus whittler", "Camillus stockman" and "balloon whittler", everything I can think of and I search through all of eBay, not just knives.


Our Scout knife buddy with the gold plated 1047s just listed a long line. He only wants $175 for this one but of course it has the original tube with it.

Jerry I missed them the first time.I was going through the completed listing and found them.So I contacted the seller and he told me when he would list them.I say they where only on ebay for 5 minutes.

I picked up a Camillus 1047 and a Imperial scout of the bay today.I purchased them because the blades look full.I think I will do a rehandle job on them as they have that black shrink material .

I wondered who bought them. I think to get the handles off the Camillus, all you'll have to do is run it through about three cycles of the Sonic Cleaner with some Dawn dish soap water in it. Handles should just crumble after that. Let me know.

Blades look very good on both those knives. I'm betting they are prime candidates for re-handles. Have you decided what you want on them? I've wondered what some good stag would look like.
