Longblade - that Simonds Saw & Steel is very interesting. I do not recall seeing that cross cut saw shield before. Nice piece of history there!

No doubt they are not all that common as I have not seen in my experience many of these Simonds knives for sale but the shield I do believe was their trademark as they were and still are known for their saw blades though they started in 1832 as scythe makers... Beechtree had another earlier knife of Simonds posted (same shield) with some history at this link under "Got Shields": http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kni ... &start=450 ... I'll be keeping my eye out for others as this knife is solid in all ways!! Be nice to find one in jigged bone ::nod:: ...

ALL killer knives Roger! ::tu:: I particularly like the Yankee Whittler though; Unusual pattern, double blade etches, three backsprings & the type of blades themselves. Never seen one before.

Boggles my mind the amazing collection of etched blade knives you have, Roger! ::tu:: Beauties each and everyone of them. Have to agree with everything greedgulo said about that Yankee Whittler.
