Thanks Joe. This is tough to say. It would seem to me that just do to the fact that Northfield used the Excelsior name for at least 22 years, while the Torrington firm was just present for four, I would imagine Northfield. But I really can not tell, maybe a straight line stamp indicates Torrington while a curved stamp (like Northfield Knife Co.s' common stamp) might indicate Northfield. Maybe at some point there will be a way to determine this.

Here are a few that are hard to come by.

CLAY ANDOVER N.Y. U.S.A., Candy Stripe Pen 2 7/8" closed, c. 1911-1923, a Platts brothers founded company.

SHUMATE CUTLERY CORP. St. LOUIS U.S.A., Goldstone Lobster 2 5/8" closed, Shumate Razors are far easier to find than the knives. c. 1920-1932

ATTICA KNIFE Co. BOY OF AMERICA, Boy's knife, metal handles, 3 3/8" closed. Looks like the RUSSELL made counterpart except a 2 blade knife with long pull on the master. c. 1875-1900

S. L. WRIGHT LITTLE VALLEY N.Y., straight razor. Never seen or heard of this stamp before. Not in Goin's book or Levine's. Research turned up a Sydney Longstreth Wright, banker from Philadelphia PA., Aug. 4, Born 1852 Died Jun. 20, 1927. It seems possible that this individual could have had some razors made on contract or by midnight oil in the Case or Cattaraugus factories. Any info appreciated.

Picked up this Crucible Knife Co. this week, as far as I know, only made from 1926 to 1929.

Some great examples here of rare finds. Wayne, that candy stripe pen reminds me of a similar swell center candy stripe pen Case and Son's (with apostrophe) I have. That stamp, with apostrophe, only existed a few years.

W. Bingham CC Cleveland, out of business in '48 so it's at least that old. Don't know about rare.

Ivoryman I'd say that one's been rehandled sometime in it's life.

Some things get better with age, like an old Pal.

Here is an old walden easy opener

Man is that Walden beautiful, great spear, EZ, the bone, cool everything.

Thanx ivoryman. This one is pretty old. I think a little rare. It's an American Knife Co. Plymouth Conn. This one goes back a ways. I think around 1875. Probably the oldest knife I have. Still has good snap.

Thanx Lyle, don't have a lot of pics of my antique knives. Have to make some time. This is the only Challenge I have. I like these early Connecticut knives.
