Hey Gino, how much does Blitz weigh now?

Gino, I have been watching the Westminster Dog Show. A Dobbie came in 2nd in the working dogs group, but it struck me that Blitz is a much better looking specimen than the show dog. Just my amateur opinion.

He is about 110 lbs now and he is a what some call a German Dobe and they typically have a larger head and weigh quite a bit more. Thanks for the kind words fellas

He is part rat terrior and part jack russell.
He is pushing 8 years old now.
He is smart, obedient and was very hyper in his younger days!

Great looking dog there Tim! Those two breeds are quite the balls of energy for sure.

That's what I have herd them called also. I got a bud who has one named Junior and that dog is off the hook big,he looks like a big Rottweiler. He took a dolly with two 50 gal trash cans on it away from me one time. He would just grab it jerk it away from you. They are strong dog's.
Your dog has a much nicer coat. He is a sharp looking Dog.

Thanks guys, he is as tired of this crap weather as us all. I take him out on my property once a day at least but its too cold to let him (or me) stay out very long.

it was *6 degrees again this morning.

He just looks out my game room sliders and watches deer, rabbits, turkeys, etc...

My Bullys are not much into going out anyway,other than to do their businesses,but they are even getting "caban fever".

This thread has been idle awhile. Fairly crappy way to revive it.

My wife and I do appreciate the company, love and companionship of our cats and dogs. We give them the best life we can in return. I like the independence factor of cats, IE: earn their trust and respect, but a bond with a dog is quite different as you all know.

My wife had a Shih Tzu named Max. I am personally not much of a fan for small dogs but he was my wife's empty nest bandaid when the boys went on their way. Great companion for her, my home office dog, great watch dog (not that he was big enough to do any damage but he let you know something was not right) and would rather explode before he relieved in the house. I dare say, the best little dog you could wish for.

At 14 years old, after a rich life for both him and my wife and I, I had the displeasure of taking him to the Vet last Tuesday. Ask the Vet after the exam, whom I trust very much, "If this was your dog, what would you do?". Of course the answer was not what any dog owner that loves their dog would want to hear but I knew it was the right thing to do. What a shitty thing to go through, even if it is right. My first time. The process is painless and quick but shitty nonetheless. Back home to dig a grave for an hour on the property as I was not going to let the little man stay there. Did not want the wife to come home and see me with a shovel in my hand as the situation was crappy already. That part not fun either and I am not talking about the work to dig a hole.

She swore up and down that this was her last dog years ago as the heartbreak is too much. The house feels pretty empty for sure. She changed her mind and I dropped some serious cash (dog better clean up her own mess outside and cook me breakfast type of cash) on a champion bloodline female Shih Tzu on Saturday. Certainly not a rich man but sometimes you have to do what you have to do to make your lady happy. She would have been fine with a free dog but I just did not want to chance getting a sick pup. The price does comes with some assurances and guarantees (on a contract) that will make it more/very costly for the breeder if something God forbid goes south. She has a few weeks before she is ready to come home as she is still to small and young. I hope to God that she arrives safely and lives a long and happy life. Just don't want my wife to have to go thru this again soon.

I have empathy for all who have had to go thru this in the past with their dogs. It really rattled my cage to see the wife so upset and for me to put the little man down, even though he lived a full life. I am tough but not without heart.

Not looking for sympathy, just needed to vent abit.

That was a heart felt post.

We surly get attached to these critters we call dogs. Being raised in the country, death seems more easy to cope with as you view the different aspects of what happens when, why or how an animal dies, but just the same they are our 4 legged friends. Sometimes it's hard to raise a steer or a pig and then turn them into table fare. We had to cope with all this as we raised our children, we even went so far as to name them Hamburger or Steak. The kids accepted this, but when it came to the dogs and cats it became something very serious.

I've had to put many down over the years, but when an adult child brings their pet home to die it's quite an event for this ol' man. On two different occasions we've had to take care of old Basset Hounds till it was their time. A very emotional thing to take your daughter's long eared, 4 legged friend and put it down. Same experience as you experienced Jerry. A trip to the vet and he tells you it's time.

The vet could tell it troubled me as he injected the dose in the old gal's vein on her short, crooked right leg. We each stroked one of her long ears (23" tip to tip) as she went to sleep. To make it easier on me, the vet told a funny story about cropping a Doberman's ears and handing the trimmed parts to his little boy saying, "Put these in your pocket and we'll make some ear sandwiches when we get home!" Needless to say his little son never gave the ears another thought and his mother found them as she did the laundry a few days later! A light moment brought a smile to face and the fact that the vet made it a personal thing for me by stroking one of those long silky ears while he told the story.

I hope the best for you and your wife with the new puppy that's coming! Thanks for taking time share your feelings, it really opened up some old memories on this end .

Thanks for sharing your story TF. Not a fun thing but the hardest part besides missing the little guy was seeing the wife devastated and crying for 3 days straight. that is the part that really rattled my cage. He was a house dog so it is just odd not having him in the office when the wife was at work and taking him out to do his business several times a day as I did for 14 years straight.

Hoping my story does not open old wounds for those whom have had to go thru this.

Jerry, my wife and I went through that about 2 years ago, but in our case it was two dogs and my cat. Both dogs were puppies when we got them and my wife's dog,(Shilo) was an inside dog and the Basset hound,(Matti Sue) outside. In their old age both developed some form of tumors and cancers. They departed our lives about 7 months apart from one another. Finally my old tom cat,(Bell) who was a true friend passed and that was the worst for me, and like the others some unknown disease took his health and the vet told us it was better for him to be put down. I buried him under a new tree I planted and when it blooms I am fondly reminded of the joy he brought to me and my families lives. They are like children as we care for their daily needs and in return they give us unconditional love and devotion. Truly mans best friend. We have Rilie Joe now, a small Beagle. She is about 2 yrs. old and the joy of our lives. She is the only child left in the nest, and I must say it will truly be a sad day when she leaves us. Until then she leaves the old sad memories neatly put away and provides us with many new and happy ones. Much empathy for you and yours, Rocky

I've got a best friend, Bud, whose time is drawing to a close. He's been my devoted friend and companion for the past 15 years. He's ridden thousands of miles with me but in the past year or so he's gotten too shaky on his feet to ride much. Still when I'm home he follows me from room to room. His hearing is all but gone. I can yell at the top of my lungs and he can't hear me. A high pitched whistle is the only sound he still responds to. His vision is failing and he is slowed from arthritis. Even with all that working against him, he still loves to go for walks and is as devoted to me as any pet I've ever had.
Someone dropped Bud on the side of the road where I live when he was about six months old. He's a mixed breed mutt that looks to have some poodle in his family tree. I picked him up and he's been with me ever since. He's endured four major surgeries and bounced back from each one. My wife says he's dumb because he doesn't do tricks. I say he's smart enough to know who loves him.

It's hard to see them go but unfortunately "dog years" don't ad up to a fair equation. I have seen a good number grow old and ultimately laid to rest. Ginger is now going on 9 and I can't even bring myself to think of her being gone.

So sorry for the loss of your little friend.

Been through it three times now. Two lived well into their teens, one died at age four, way too soon.

Got a West Highland Terrier that just turned nine in March. Most intelligent dog we've ever owned and contrary to the breed, the most affectionate.

I can tear up just thinking about her time coming, so I know I'm going to be devastated when it happens.

You've done the best thing and that is to get another puppy as soon as possible.

This one isn't mine but I sure wish she was! Her name is Suka and she is a 9 week old(and 23 lbs already)Alaskan Malemute.My son's best friend and his wife just got her the other day.The mother was 150 lbs. and the father nearly 180 lbs.! Needles to say my son's Jack Russell Terrier let her know today who the alpha dog is aorund here. Nothing serious;just a friendly reminder.
