Good morning. 60 degrees to start the day but it's still hazy from Canada. Yesterday after church our kids decided to head south about 140 miles to some antique shops and invited us to go with. In one town where used to be a ton of shops, only three are left and they are scarce picking for knives. In the last one, I was ready to give up when I found three knives in a case with an old knife guy sitting helping customers and one of the ones he had was a nice Russell Navy Knife. A little visiting and minor haggling and it went home with me. I'm hoping the mail box today willy yield a knife from Scott. I'm off to paint some windows. Have a god week.____Dave

Mornin' Y'all

Nothin' new or startling, just a dry, mildly warm day ahead here in Dixie. I could cut the grass,
but I'll probably let it ride a few more days. The ground is still pretty damp.

Yawl be safe !

Good Mornin', Chris and others that will stop by the diner today. ::handshake::
64°, just barely light enough to see this morning, haven't spotted Bambi and company in the yard or garden yet. Yesterday they started eating our straight necked squash plants and cucumber plants.

I love them but wish they would stay in the woods. A bit discouraging when trying to raise a small garden. Last week they ate our Bell pepper plants. Oh well, maybe we'll trade out with them next hunting season.
Men's prayer meeting this morning and then a trip to the grocery store with Miss Joy after breakfast is on today's agenda. Got all the mowing done yesterday except around the two fish ponds closest to the house.
Gotta run, y'all have a great Tuesday!

Good morning. It's a cool drizzly morning here. We are making a material run this morning and putting up a kitchen ceiling in the cabin we've been working on. It's a stone cabin that's up for sale and is a landmark building around here' There is a lot of interest in it and some people, not from around here, want to buy it to tear down and use the property to build a year round house and the neighbors at the lake, all related to the man who did the stone work and died about 50 or 60 years ago and was grandpa or uncle to the ones in the cabins around it are really nervous about who gets it. It comes with a two story stuga that Jason and I finished a few years ago in V groove paneling and is a beautiful building. The neighbors would love to pool their money and purchase the two buildings but the $250,000 price tag is out of reach. The Stuga has a small attached garage with a small Cris-Craft runabout boat in it that the current owner, a widow of the one of the grandsons of the guy who did the stone work almost 100 years ago gave away apparently not knowing it's value. The grandpa was a well known minister who's kids and grandkids became ministers with few exceptions. Lots of local history is involved in this small community where almost everyone is related. Have a great Tuesday.____Dave

Farmers iff'n you want them big fat greasy bucks this fall you gonna have to feed'um. ::woot::
In 2004 when I retired I bought a little Ford 3000 tractor and a brand new garden tiller, I was planning on getting back in the garden business. For several years the boss and I both working and first taking of her dad and brother and then my mom and dad, we'd quit trying to raise any garden to speak of. It went pretty well for a couple of years, then it happened I put out four rows sweet corn, couple of rows of Crowder peas, some Kentucky wonder pole beans, maters, squash, peppers and such and everything got up about couple or three inches high and the fool deer nipped everything off even with the ground. I replanted, someone told me to hang pie pans, cans of rocks and put something they didn't like the smell of around my plot, didn't work and I got tired of it. Got me some big pots for my mater and peppers and we had a old double sink that came out of a dairy barn and we started our "raised pot " gardening. We buy alot of corn, beans, peas, squash and such, but the boss just has to get a little dirt under her fingernails, I'm gonna shell down the corn iff'n it was left up to me I'd buy all that we use at the many farmer markets and stands around here, but the boss is the boss. ::woot:: ::super_happy:: ::handshake::

Morning, folks.
Wet and sticky here in the Missouri Ozarks. Bad time yesterday. Took our cat, Banjo to the vet for a "last" evaluation. They recommended hospitalization by a specialist in which we then went from Springfield, MO all the way to Kansas City. We didn't get back until 2:30 am and brought him back with us as the total hospitalization for one night would've been $2,400. So we have him here kind of in a hospice way. He's still got some spunk and fight, but he's fading and we can see it.
In addition...our truck just gave out. We think it's the alternator or starter. Great timing, huh?! ::facepalm:: :x So hopefully, Banjo will not pass or come to need to be put down while our truck is away at the garage for repair. ::shrug:: I swear...when it rain, it doesn't pour...it floods.
Enough of my troubles and hope I didnt bring the diner down too much.
Y'all have a great Tuesday. Remember...be safe, be careful and be alert.

Much appreciated, Quick. He's resting comfortably today and happy to be home and not being poked and prodded.

Doesn't look like it will be a wash out though.

Good Mornin', Chris. Where's the rest of the FCD crew?
69° & cloudy this morning, rain in the Gulf down around St. George Island, heading northwest. Local weather says we may see some in the afternoon. ::shrug:: Weekly forecast says we have a good chance for precipitation till the end of the week. The sun was breaking through the clouds for a few minutes, now it's gone.
Going shopping with Miss Joy took most of the morning yesterday. Worked (puttered) around the shop in the afternoon. Got to go to the bank today and if there are not a bunch of cars around the barbershop, I'll get my ears lowered. No church tonight, vacation bible school is in high gear, we used to be able to help out but it's too much for us old folks. We do pray for the activities, though.
Coffee is being poured and the sun is out again, y'all have a blessed day.

Good morning Chris and all who follow us in. I think it's done raining here and the sun is peaking through the trees. Yesterday Jane had a Dr. appt and I thought it was a routine one, but apparently she didn't want to worry me until she knew more, which she still doesn't, but she has a growth under tongue that showed up a few weeks ago and they took a biopsy to see what it is. She is clearly worried and now so am I. We have both lost several siblings and one parent each to cancer. The other two parents died but not of cancer. We will know in about a week and are praying hard it isn't something that can't be dealt with easily. There is no church tonight because of the summer schedule and the week seems so long when it isn't broken up with the Wednesday night Bible study. I might try to tackle a small church project after work today tearing apart the floor by the sound booth to make the booth bigger. I've been trying to get it done for a week, but after a day's work I just don't have the energy left like I did when I was 70. This getting old is getting on my nerves. The knife I bought from Scott got here On Monday and it's so sweet. Scott figured it was one that I would really like and he was right. I gotta run. Have a good Wednesday. Good morning Phil. I see you slipped in.____Dave

This made me think of ol' Wampus

Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are God. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are God."

Morning folks, 64 heading to the upper 80's.
Wampus was awol again this morning. Old jaw is a little sore where the tooth was yanked out but that's to be expected I reckon.
Just got a call from my doctor's office letting me know that the pathology on the polyps was normal, and to come back in three years.
We had a old yeller cat show up yestiddy, our neighbor's cat boopsy who has adopted the boss and I was not pleased and let it know it was not welcome, there was some serious discussion caught on our door bell camera last night.

Good morning fellow knifers .
Big H . Hope your jaw from your dental work heals up and doesn’t give you much grief.
Been up in “ the north woods “ country fishing . Fishing has been okay. Caught our limit of Crappies .Weather not bad . Smoke from the Canadian fires was bad enough the other day our friend Bob had to leave . Today there’s still a haze in the air . My fishing partner ( Vic) and I are sitting here trying to get from the cabin to the boat and we’re not moving too fast yet . Sometimes you need to just enjoy the moment . Here’s a few pics. The Eagle population here has really grown in the last 10 years or so . They have learned to watch the boats and wait for fish that aren’t going to make it to go belly up and they’ve got an easy meal . It’s an amazing site when they come swooping in after the belly up fish . They will nest in big pines and while watching for food perch on dead trees for better visibility.
You all have a great day out there.

Good Mornin', JP, Dave and others.
Great pics JP! Looks like y'all know how to enjoy the "north woods"! ::tu::
70° this morning, partly cloudy, chance of afternoon shower. Had 0.5" of rain yesterday afternoon.
bighomer, there are 3 big Tom cats hanging around our shop the last week or so. They are always fighting, they sure make some interesting sounds. One of our neighbors across the pasture says the same ones are around her place, too. I can say a cat, that is a barn cat, is a necessary evil around a barn or shop to eliminate rats and mice when you live out in the country.
Workday today, taco salad is on the menu today. My job is to brown and season the meat, Miss Joy gets to have all the fun with the knife this morning making little pieces out of big ones, onions and tomatoes.
Mowed several out of the way places yesterday afternoon, the north side of the island pond, around the shooting house and around the deer feeder. Noticed the feeder was out of corn, need to fill it sometime today. Was able to drive the mower to all the sites, sometimes it's too wet and we have to move the mower with the truck and trailer to the feeder.
Y'all stay safe today. ::tu::

Fine photos Ripster. Thanks for sharing.

This afternoon, one of my sisters will arrive for a brief visit on her way to Chicago from Florida. Looking forward to seeing her as it has been a couple of years since we last met.

I lent a rifle to a neighbor. He called, all excited about his target practice with it. I think he had not previously used an optical sight.

One of my former coworkers is in a long term facility. Leaves me a bit sad. He was a police sergeant, a big, burly fellow full of piss and vinegar. Ultimately, advancing age humbles us all.

peace & health

I can almost smell that sink full of Crappie! Great pictures you are showing there, the Eagles, the awesome sky, and that one of the geese looks almost whimsical.
Someone better get that "City Club" sign to a safe place before a knucklehead decides to throw a rock through it. The "Pickers" would pay up for that classic. Thanks for showing those pics, I seldom check the FCD but happened to this morning.

Morning folks 67 for the low topping out in the upper 80's.late showers and thunderstorms predicted.
The haze from the Canadian wild fires has made it it's way here.
Wampus was on his throne. Patiently waiting for his breakfast, he ate and left like he had someplace to be.
Rip those photos are sure fine, been awhile since I've had a mess of crappie, some fine eating to be sure. My old jaw is feeling pretty good I may even get on the zt and cut some grass in a bit.
Garry enjoy your time with you sister, sorry about your friend, I've got several friends in similar circumstances.
Hope yawl have a good'un and be careful out there. ::handshake::

JP, jealous of your “north country”. Have camped in various areas up there. God’s country. Next week my business partner and her hubby will be spending a week at a fishing camp, hopefully I will receive some fish for working all 6 days that week. Last year I happily got enough walleye for 3 or 4 meals.
Had the wildfire smoke here too, pretty much cleared out currently. A year ago was the worst I’ve ever seen, driving north on I35 as I got close to Minneapolis it was horrible, reddish brown, like driving in a bad blizzard.
I best get ready to go to work.
