Really like that one. Ooooozes character and back story. Great bones too. Beautiful piece, congrats on some great knives.
Also love the Case and the bench grinder story. Great save getting those marks out. Looks pretty good now to me and what a piece. Excellent group of knives, keep 'em coming.

Sweet knife, love the bones and great shape. Every time I watch and bid on a Cattaraugus I get left in the dust by the stampede of deep pocketed bidders. They must be fab for all the interest they receive. Nice one, good post.

Trying to improve my technique and backgrounds. Since cattle are stock, I reasoned that cattle knives would fit into this thread.

Recently acquired Sword brand by Camillus. Interesting scales similar to Goldstone except blue.

Although I see the logic of your thinking, the cattle knife and the stockman are completely different patterns. The stockman is a serpentine jack, whereas the cattle knife is a cigar jack.

To help improve “technique and backgrounds” a copy of Levine’s Guide to Knives is money well spent (the 4th edition is pricey) and a great aid to learn about pattern names and their origins. If you want to learn the names but don’t care about the origins or other details the Research section of AAPK is a good resource (click on Research in the header at the top of this page). The section on Case knife pattern names has descriptions of the various patterns, most of them also made by other brands and called the same pattern names. https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/ca ... ence-guide

Is this an Imperial or a NY, Knife Co. Knife? I don't see any paten # on any other of the blades.

Hoping other would sound off about you knife. To me it just has the look of an Imperial. Maybe others with more knowledge are of a different opinion.

After doing some research... It is looking like a 1936-37 Imperial to me now...

One of my rare JACK KNIFE BEN CHICAGO , UNION STOCK YARDS cattle knives. This pattern is blade etched HUMMER instead of HANDY DANDY JACK KNIFE BEN.

N.Y. Knife Co. used and abused but still alive 'n kicking

4 line Camillus. The Camillus' four-line stamp is said to have been used on knives manufactured from the early 1930s to the mid 1940s.
