Here is a 4 3/8" Cattaraugus Swell Center whittler. It has been buffed. The blade spines still show some deep pitting. The story i received with this knife is that it had been owned by a collector in Germany whose house was destroyed by a bombing raid in WW II and that many of his knives were either 'lost' or suffered damage. The remnants of pitting on the blade spines does look rather deep to be due tp celluloid off gassing.
Regardless it is still a fine old knife with perfect blade action.

And here is a very nice 3 5/8" Maher & Grosh Sleeveboard whittler with a double pull master blade. My guess is made by Ulster Knife Co. but i would be happy to have this corrected if need be.

Here is a 3 1/4" German Sleeveboard whittler with thick nicely rounded pearl handles. Blades are marked "Vom Cleff/Germany" with a sample number in ink on back of master. Most of the old Vom Cleff knives were made by Lutters.

This pearl 3 1/2" Sleeveboard lock back whittler is marked "XLALL/Parkin &/Marshall/Sheffield" on all 3 blades. The shield is marked "Thos. Proctor", likely the original owner's name. It has been buffed and came from a now deceased USA collector of whittlers who liked buffed knives. I have forgotten his name but he was well known and an M.D. i think.
Knife functions exactly as it should.

Here is a real 'oldie'. Although not marked with country or town i believe it is British. 3 3/4" with ivory handles and perfect blade action. Very well made knife that has seen a lot of use but remains tight with crisp snaps. All 3 blades are marked "Hepworth/Pilley & Co".

Can you read the tang stamp on the main blade?
It looks worn off in the picture.
Are the other blades stamped?

Can you read the tang stamp on the main blade?

There are no markings i can see on the secondary blades. I can make out enough of the markings on the master blade to know it says "Cattaraugus".

Scruffy, but quite responsive to it's springs.

FRJ - that Morley & Sons is nice! The jigging is kind of unique, like old oak bark: I like it.

Had this old Schrade Cut Co whittler out for lube and oil. Decided to carry it for a while. Threw in an Ed K Tryon Philadelphia with it.
