Jerry, the open-stocks were pattern 234. Most of them were "K-horn" celluloid, and were called the 234K.

I understand the well-founded concern over celluloid. I have many of them. So far, one of them has been acting up. All the rest have been very well behaved. It looks like I may not last forever either. Here is one made 1904-1917, which makes it 98 to 111 years old. It is absolutely perfectly stable. I love the fear; it allows me to pick up some heart-breakingly beautiful items CHEAP.

Funny you should mention that. I just picked up a Delrin® 233. Seller claims it's been shipped but I have yet to see any movement.

Seller's picture.

Thanks Tom. Now that I have the 233 (according to USPS tracking, should be delivered today) and 833UH I think I can quit on the Schrades unless you guys know something I don't.

Dang dude, I like those dive knives and if Ken (justold52) still came around, he would be drooling all over himself.

I am eeeextremely envious of those dive knives. You have the whole shootin' match, and in super good condition.

My 233 got here yesterday. It needed a little cleaning but came out just fine.

First old Barlow, I also posted this in the Barlow thread but figured it belongs here in the old Schrade thread.

Schrade Cut Co made some nice Barlows.
I could never figure why Schrade never added a Barlow to their Old Timer line other than the brief time they offered the Ulster 58OT. ::shrug::

Couple new one's, a Schrade Wostenholm new in box and a Schrade 204 that appears to gave never been used.
The 204 looks to be a factory defect, stain poorly applied on one handle or its been sitting on something all theses years that changed the color. Really impressed with how well the 204 is made other than the handles.

Is it possible to see and read the IXL paperwork, the top of the box, and the open knife with tang stamp? A very interesting knife. I would like to see more!

Sure, I'll take some more pics tomorrow. The tang stamp is the usual George Wostenholm, nowhere on the knife is marked Schrade which I find a little unusual.

Here are the pics you requested, I am finding this knife and packaging quite interesting, I can not find where Schrade had the Wostenholm Barlow in their catalog, they did have the other IX*L knives.
The gold hang tag I have never seen before, when Schrade bought Richards Holdings in 1977 did they have a bunch of these laying around and decided to market some as Scrade, it's not an uncommon knife but there is nothing on the box or knife identifying it as Schrade.
Or is this paperwork from another knife and just ended up in the box over the years.

Thanks for posting, John. I didn't get any paperwork with my barlow. It's interesting to see it. Both are really nice knives and interesting. ::tu::

I really like those IXL barlows but I am a little nervous about them being a part of the Schrade collaboration. I think it is possible that there could be some paperwork shuffling going on. I wonder if the paperwork came from the giant ebony handled stockman knives as a collab. with Schrade. Those are pretty impressive as well.Perhaps someone will chime in?

It does have me wondering, I have other IX*L Barlows and the paperwork with this one was a surprise. The way the hang tag is worded on the right side it appears to be from the very beginning of the Schrade purchase.

This came in yesterdays mail. I'm not familiar with that small clip..and have never seen a 836. Are the blades correct?

dweb,

I have an 838 which could be the twin to that 836 except for the blade configuration. The 838 has the same Large Saber Clip Point blade, the same small spear point and, instead of the small clip point on your knife (836) the 838 has a small Bevel point blade.

Good looking knife!

Tom
