The Panhandle of Florida has a very late rut, consequently our whitetail fawns are born late in the summer compared to a lot of places in the US. This picture made me laugh a bit. I imagined this ol' doe saying, "What do you mean, I look pregnant?"

We see them close to that small sometimes around here a little bit earlier in the summer than this, but usually it means they probably won't make it through their first winter.____Dave

Very neat sighting of the fawn, Scott! I have only ever encountered one that small, ever.

Fellows, sometimes the tiniest thing can boost your spirits. Yesterday I was kayaking on a local river. When I stopped to take a stroll on a sand bar I happened to find notice a piece of driftwood that made a perfect natural frame for photographing a knife. But then, just as I took the photo, I noticed the leaf. With fall color. Just a leaf on the sand: but what a fine promise of cooler weather to come!

Being retired helps a lot with that, I notice! When I am heading out with my boat or kayak on a weekday, I think of all the times that either I or a coworker have pointed at someone with a boat on a work day and and said something along the lines of "Look at that SOB!"

Dinadan, I had a similar experience in the Gran Tetons back in 2016. We were at the Olaf Murie ranch (I think that was his name) and I spotted this leaf in a pine tree and thought it was beautiful in a very simple way. I didn't see it then but if you blow it up there is also a little worm out on the branch and a little bug.

Very cool Scott. In Germany they encourage them to nest on their houses as it is supposed to bring good luck. I bet it brings a lot of stork poop, I enjoy seeing them though.

Doglegg - I think it is important to appreciate the very simple beauty as in your photo. Many times I have looked at a leaf with ephemeral autumn colors and thought that if I could create something as beautiful as that leaf then I would be an artist indeed. In this modern world it is hard to take the time to really look at that kind of thing.

Scott - We do not have any storks in my area. Those would be cool to see in my back yard!

Thanks Mel, God blessed some folks with artistic ability and for me thankfully with eyes to see his beauty. And the Lord does all his work in etch a sketch. A strong breeze, a change of season or even the time of day and it is all different.

Very Dry in my part of the world 100% of the State of New South Wales is "drought declared" and the Kangaroos are getting bolder & bolder in search of a bit of green grass. Fuzzy pic from our kitchen window at 7.00 this morning.

Hard to get a scale on this big fella ... he is behind a 4 foot fence but I am above him at an angle ... however he would be around 6 foot standing erect like this.

Really cool picture BDU, I bet he could eat his share of your green stuff. We are in the middle of a drought in our neck of the woods as well. But it comes pretty regular here so I guess we are use to it.
