All About Pocket Knives

Thanks guys.
They sure are fun to shoot. As much as I'd like to get more often, between range fees and the cost of ammo, I'm blessed to be able to get out when I do.
And speaking of ammo, getting almost impossible to find around here.

I put this on order this morning from Mernickle Holsters.
Now the wait begins - it can take up to 10 weeks!
Hopefully less time since I'm not getting anything custom. Looking at a lot of rigs fashioned after what was worn in the late 1800s, I saw the majority were pretty plain, very little, if any, design stamping. I'm going traditional!

Here's mine, sans weapon. I do not own any "old west" style handguns.
I use mine with either of the two, large frame, hand cannons pictured below.

Rifle I could probably hold my own in competition. Shot well enough in the Air Force to qualify as Marksman three times.
Handgun, not yet! My Uberti 1873 Cattleman El Patron, my first and only handgun, probably has less than 400 rounds through it! Still trying to get it figured out.
And I do love the look of the old west!

That 500 is a hoot to shoot. After about three rounds, the fun is done. JMO

I'm the same way, just for fun and protection, and right now I have 6 handguns from a 410/45LC Taurus to a Ruger 380 that all need to be fired. With my own bout with the virus, range closings etc. I haven't practiced in about 5 months now.

Air Force qualification.

Phase 3: Qualification

Phase 3 is the phase that really counts. You fire a total of 40 rounds at a man-sized target at 300 meters. To pass the qualification course, you must hit the target at least 20 times. The following list describes the specific ways you must qualify using supported and unsupported positions:
•Prone supported: Ten rounds (one 4-round magazine, two 3-round magazines), at 300 meters, 90-second time limit.
•Prone unsupported: Ten rounds (one 4-round magazine, two 3-round magazines), at 300 meters, 90-second time limit.
•Kneeling supported: Ten rounds (one 4-round magazine, two 3-round magazines), at 300 meters, 90-second time limit.
•Over barricade supported: Ten rounds (one 4-round magazine, two 3-round magazines), at 300 meters, 90-second time limit.


Army qualification.

Phase 3

During phase 3 of training, you actually complete the official Army qualification course. You must pass the minimum standards in order to graduate from Army basic combat training.

During this phase, you shoot targets (single and pop-up) from three firing positions:
•Supported prone, in which you stand and fire with your rifle supported by a barricade
•Unsupported prone, where you stand and fire without anything to support your rifle
•Foxhole (replaced the kneeling position), where you kneel and shoot from within a simulated foxhole.

Tip: The foxhole position allows you to support your weapon on the solid ground. In my experience, foxhole is the most stable firing position. In order to qualify, you must hit at least 23 out of 40 pop-up targets at rangesvarying from 5 meters to 300 meters (approximately 80 to 327 yards).


Marine Corps qualification.

Marine Corps Rifle Qualification Levels

“Marksmen” is the lowest score obtained, with a scoring range of 250-279
“Sharpshooter” is obtained with a combined score falling between 280-304
“Expert” is obtained with a combined score falling between 305-350

These rifle qualification scores are composites of the scores obtained on Tables 1 and 2.

Marine Corps Rifle Qualification Table 1

Table 1 is the known distance range and is comprised of three targets, each scored from 5 to 0 points (5, 4, 3, 2, Miss). Each recruit fires 50 shots for a maximum score of 250.
•The “Able” target is 4ft x 6ft with a 12in bullseye and is used for slow fire at the 200 and 300 yard lines, from the sitting, kneeling and standing positions.
•The “Dog” target looks vaguely like a person looking over a barricade. It’s on 6ft x 6ft paper and used for rapid fire (10 shots in 60 seconds) at the 200 and 300 yard lines, from the sitting and prone.
•The “B-Modified” target is a human silhouette, also on a 6ft x 6ft paper, and used for slow fire at the 500 yard line from the prone.

At the 500 yard line the recruit is shooting at a target with just a sling for support. The rifle can not touch the ground or anything other than the shooter’s body.

Mastery of the fundamentals of marksmanship is the difference between a 5 and a miss. During the first two days of training, prior to qualification, there are coaches on the line helping recruits to improve their positions and master the techniques. On qualification day, it’s all on the recruit.

Marine Corps Rifle Qualification Table 2

Table 2 is combat marksmanship. It consists of 50 rounds (scored 2, 1 or miss), fired at a pair of silhouette targets from the 25 yard line.

The recruit earns:
•2 points per hit in the head, chest or pelvis
•1 point per hit elsewhere on target

NAVY QUALIFICATIONS....5" 8" 12" & 16" just requires you come close. Let me add that only Gunnersmates need to qualify. Our guys went to Camp Pendleton. ftd

I've been looking for a muzzleloader kit to build this winter...until I went to garage sales today! I got this Pedersoli percussion rifle in .45 for $200! The owner said he'd shot it twice. I'm excited!

Be careful.... muzzleloaders are addicting......

Now that’s real fine! Extra fine! I’ve been mulling over getting a muzzle loader myself.

Thanks guys! The real neat part of this story is I was looking for knives...when I asked the elderly gentleman if he had any he said sure, come in and look. Turns out he was a retired custom knifemaker! When he showed me what he had I was floored! He was a true craftsman. He had the rifle inside and I asked if it was for sale he said sure, $200. I'd been looking at Pedersoli kits and they were in the $500 and up range so I snagged this one. Can't wait to fire it up!

But the big question is.......did ya get any of his knives???

I guess I left that part out Wade! No I didn't. His knives were more than the rifle! He used the stock removal method to hollow grind the blades and most were hidden tang stag handles. As much as I'd like to have I gotta confess...I like guns better than knives

I’m with ya. I love them both, but if I had to choose..... I dearly love the smell of burnt gun powder.

Cudgee, ad near as I can tell the wood is a cherry stained maple. I looked on the net and Pedersoli made rifles with maple and walnut, but I think k this is too red to be walnut.

For us in Maine it's sight-in season,this week twas a few of my buddies .next week will be the Grandies. On the table b to t, a model 99,pre 64 Win ,336c and a 742.tail gate a Parker bolt -06 and 99 .300 Savage. Solo a Winchester 88 in a .308..
