Are those getting ripe already? Around here the muscadines turn dark purple when they are ripe. I have a pretty big vine in my back yard, wild, not planted, but the raccoons, opossums, jays and so forth pretty well eat the ripe ones before I see them.

Used to work on traffic signals and school flashers, always hated it when there were wild grapes near by as the birds would feed on them and leave a grape hued coating on our signal equipment.

Yes sir, that’s Dauphin Island. We rented a house across the road from the beach with the bay behind us. The beaches on that section are private, so it was only the families staying in the rental houses. No crazy stuff going on, and you could leave your stuff on the beach or u see the house and walk around and no one would bother anything. It was great.
If you’ve never been to Dauphin Island, they tell me it’s what the Florida beaches were back in the 50’s. Here’s no shopping malls or chain restaurants on the island. It’s all small Mom and pop places. Best seafood ever. Very relaxing.
Oh, and Pirates restaurant in their little country club had the best fried oysters I’ve ever put in my mouth. May have been the best thing I’ve sver eaten. Man they were good. It’s a SMALL little restaurant. Get there early for supper. You’ll leave happy.

Sarah and I will be in Gulf Shores for a few days in August, celebrating our 49th year of marriage.
She wants to go back to St. Thomas for the 50th.
Gotta save some money.

Some new shots from the feeder, in Stephens Co., Texas.
I finally drove some T-posts in at an angle and wired them up. Hopefully will stop the cows from knocking it over.
That was fun work, in 110 degree heat...it was a little bit hot.

Thanks, QS.
In the photo with the coyote over on the right....I'm pretty sure that is a chupacabra "goat sucker" behind the feeder.
Either that, or a mangy hairless coyote.

Definitely a chupacabra. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Had the boys out yesterday teaching them about muscadines (I just learned a few days ago myself).

When I was a boy, we knew where all the muscadine and scuppanine (?sp) vines were. Usually discarded the peels and just ate the pulp.
Also wild plums. Cannot recall the last time I saw wild plums growing on the side of a roadway. Did they all die?
Mulberries, persimmons, and wild cherries seem to have disappeared too.
Maybe I just don't get out enough.
