Check out this forum if researching any Savage 1899 or 99:

If they don't know, they'll find out. Good group of folks too, mostly. Here are two of the ones that I take care of. I usually take the R out opening day, chambered in 300 Savage. Lovely rifles, both of these are pre-war guns. I think these have been posted before.

When I was a young teen, an old neighbor up the road had a Savage 99 chambered in 250-3000. He said it was a "deer getter". I've never owned a 99 but I believe I'd have to disagree with Scale Military sayin' it's not collectible.

Firearms are like knives, they're all collectible, some are just worth more than others.

I doubt there is much I can tell you about the 300 Savage Wade. It works. Think of a 308 W lite. Getting scarce on the shelves but what isn't these days. Reloading is the answer to that issue.

Thanks Steve. I remember reading that the 300 Savage was the parent cartridge of the 308. Am I remembering that right?
Like I said, I’ve never owned or shot one, but I’ve never heard or read a negative thing about it.

I like all lever actions. The Henry youth model is a fun little gun, (I added the big loop) But the 39’s are my favorites for sure.

Steve, I've found 24 hour campfire great site, haven't joined yet. Beautiful 99's by the way.
Treefarmer, my gun is a post 1000000 production, from what I've read are the most collectible of the savages. Though mine is somewhat collectible.

Nice ones eveled!

The 30-06 is more likely the parent of the 308, as it was introduced in 1903 and revised in 1906 while the 300 Savage was introduced in 1920. And the 30-06 was the military cartridge that preceded the 308.

I have a 99 in a .300 Savage ,Up here in maine we don't usually get long shots as the woods are too thick.I find the 300 to be between a 30-30- and a .308

I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a Moose with it.Nice levers Eveled

Things I've read; the 300 Sav was developed in an attempt to match the ballistics of the 30-06 as loaded in the 20's with an 150 grain bullet AND the 300 Sav was the inspiration for the 308W or 7.62 NATO. If any of its true they both were an attempt to be a 30-06 in a shorter case with a 150 grain bullet.
Eveled, those 39's are a great 22 lever gun. I like the second one from the top.
GD that's a nice of 99EG with experience. You still have that old Colt 32 that you posted at the beginning of this thread? What a cool old shooter that is.
All this rifle stuff distracted me from posting these two pics of a Model 19 that I'm proud to say i take care. Gun show find for cheap, not original S & W bluing on it. One side was nice, the other side looked like a camo job was done on it from laying on a forest floor for a bit. Nice shooter with 38 wadcutters in it.

Per Frank Barnes book "Cartridges of the World" the 7.62 NATO was a shortened 30-06 case by reducing the case from 63mm to 51mm. So clearly one military cartridge was made from its predecessor. When you say that one cartridge is the "parent" of another, that is a term that wildcatters and case reformers use to say you can make cases of one cartridge into another. You can make 308 brass from 30-06 cases, but you cannot make 308 brass from 300 Savage cases because they are too short.

I’m now working part-time (weekends) at a 15,000 square foot, state-of-the-art shooting facility which is the first of its kind in the Delmarva area.
The indoor-only (for now) range has 12 climate-controlled, 25-yard lanes, 6 axe and knife throwing lanes, an extensive training curriculum and a hands-on retail area.
I’m stoked!

Certainly an impressive looking facility. Never heard of a range having knife and ax throwing lanes. Very cool.

Yes the Century limited. It’s a birth year gun for me. Such a great little gun.

Interesting facility, bestgear, as has been mentioned. Brother and I were at a grille on either Rt220 or 42 south of Eaglesmere, PA on a road trip a few weeks ago. Sat outside as that was the only deal offered. There were two axe throwing targets just off the outside dining space. I could just see now, hold my beer and watch this.

Some range time today sighting in the new Browning BL22 Grade 1, 22lr. Shoots great, the short throw lever on the Browning is really great. Sighted her in at 50 yards with Win Super X 22lr high velocity hollow points.
