I'd like to see it fired after dark!

samb1955, I hear you on that! I'll bet it'll light up the the world when it goes boom in the dark. Reminds me of an old Remington 742 30/06 carbine I hunted with for a short time many years ago. If you shot a deer right before dark, there was know way to tell if you got him or which way he went til your eyes got over the flash! Kinda like shootin' a muzzle loader on a humid day.:)

Pretty gun though.
I don't think that would be any fun. Not as bad as my ex-SIL's Smith 500 Magnum (after the first three rounds the fun is done) but on a frame that small, close. I shoot for fun, not punishment.

The reason those short barrel magnums exist is for use on "hostile" bears. You would never even notice the recoil and blast using them under those circumstances.

Bro has a question.

He has a Savage Model 99C coming in the mail, and was wondering what would be a good match of ammo. His is 308, series A.
Anybody have recent experience shooting one?

We're not sure what twist the barrel is, so it's all a guess buying ammo.

Thanks.
[/quote]

Willy, the 99C will handle any 308 ammo you put in it. The twist rate doesn't really matter but it probably 1 in 10 or 1 in 12. Really long bullets may not function in the magazine but your run of the mill 150 grainers/165 grainers should be no problem, 180 grains same. Make sure you keep the stock bolt snugged up. The butt stocks are known to crack at the tang on top. Tight but not too tight.

That's a nice looking 19 Jerry. And those SS wheel guns are looking fine too!

Here’s a couple of pics. Yes it does have SS sights. The fixed work well for me and like you said this one is crazy accurate. I mostly shoot 158 grain 38 specials out of it for fun, and every session at least one cylinder of 158 grain .357. The dern thing even makes my poor shooting look decent. And the trigger pull can’t be beat.

Iirc the recessed cylinder was discontinued with the -2 guns. And there was an “improvement” on the yoke somehow in the -3 guns I think I remember reading, but I may have that backwards. From what I’ve read the -1 through -4 were the best of the bunch. I’m just tickled to have mine. And yours looks awesome too! These old K frames are something special.
