Interesting Bit of Trivia . That’s quite the original name 7 Up had in the beginning. And they’re still in business if I remember right .

Appreciate the 7-Up trivia Skip. Yep, seems a lot of the soft drinks started out as having some medicinal properties. Might be why a lot of our Grandparents used to talk about "The Good Ol' Days."

A mighty fine knife it is. Even the printing survived in pretty good shape!

Figured I would post this one here also. I picked this up at a collectibles shop near me. A Camillus Sword Brand, pattern 14 Serpentine Jack. It has the Sword Brand Tang Stamp on the mark side of the main blade and the four line Camillus Cuttlery Co. tang stamp (which was used from 1941 to 1946) on the pile side. The blades do have some stains and pits, the main blade has weak snap, the secondary pen blade has great snap, and no blade wobble with either. No cracks in the handles, and has the federal shield. I am soaking it the warm mineral oil over night and will flush it out. See if it helps the snap on the master blade any.

Smitty nice Sword stamped #14 . Great cleanup process you have with your hot oil treatment.
Picked up another US Military pocket knife ,the US Cost Guard Approved rope knife . This one has the 3 line stamp though,which confuses me as the books say it should be 4 line stamp . Will dig further into that later . This example is a little weak, the 4 line I show with it is stronger but not the real strong snap . Now to find theKutmaster one and the Imperial #85 C .

Thanks JP. Very nice looking USCG rope knife. As for the tang stamp difference, a lot of times the contracts set up through the Governments GSA office with manufactures would usually have all the requirements. Consisting of drawings, dimensions, standards for material, types of handles and also on requirements for any special inscriptions, stamps, markings etc. Such as the Approved CG tang stamp. But as for the manufactures tang stamp it usually did not make critical specifications. These contracts were usually set up for a specified amount of time or years. So it is not surprising that there would be any transitional or tang stamp changes. Plus dealing with a time frame of military contracts, Camillus was probably using what was in the shelves. During my time working with the DOD, I know for a fact that the Camillus Electricians Knife (pattern 27) and the Pattern 1 Hawkbill was a GSA Item and were available to sign out with your tool kits. I saw several that was still in storage with Wood as well as Black Delrin handles and with various style tang stamps.

Hey thanks Smitty.
That makes absolute sense with Camillus, and both stamps being close in dates ,would be easy transition for them to just grab the next batch of blades. The Government not caring much about the “particular “tang stamp also sounds about right .

Agree with you Floyd,the hunt is fun. Getting to be a challenge in the military and short line stuff . Picked up another of his books,so more knives added to the list

Smitty you got me thinking, I have an Electrician's Knife marked 'US Property on the blade', I need to dig it out and post a picture.

Here is one I rescued from an antique store over the weekend.
Not too awful bad. The main blade is pretty good.
It has the "sword Brand" tang stamp on the mark side tang.
Does the "SWORD BRAND" stamp make it a 1941 - 1946 knife?

Somebody has already done a little work on it. The pile side cover looks like a pile of maple. At least the color is similar to the bone on the mark side.......

Looking from the top, the liner is warped. Probably because the "repair man" didn't disassemble the knife to do the repair. No pins holding the cover on.


Looks like I have me some projects for winter shop time....
This one needs some love.

Found this old WW 2 Navy General Utility knife floating in the bay recently. I put in a low price for it and low and behold no one else bid. I was thrilled. Love the bones on these old knives and after the 72 it is about my favorite pattern. Thanks for looking.
