Bob, it's stamped USA. I do remember thinking to myself, after discussing with you some of the oddities of the knife's build, "Mercy, what they're doing these days to compete with the Pacific Rim".

My wife got me this 112 Ranger [with some help from our son] for Christmas.
It's my first 112 and I love it!
This could make a nice edc, not too big and solid as a rock for work.
I also have a few other lockback Bucks. Coming back around to a good old fashioned
lockback. They are so confidence instilling for tough jobs.
The 482 is Sandvik. Nice steel imho.

I just bought my second knife of 2016; and like the first one (which isn't here yet) it is a Buck Knife. This older Bucklite 422 is from 1983 and was issued as a BSA, Order of the Arrow commemorative. It's in mint shape, just missing the skimpy nylon sheath these came with - the sheath for these had both BUCK and the BSA symbol embroidered on the front. OH

Just bought my third knife of 2016 - just a full week into the year - some good ones on my want list just started popping up all of a sudden - gotta strike while the iron is hot. Bought this yellow Valox handled Buck 303 from Sanders Knives here on AAPK - it'll be in next week. Sellers photo. OH

Alright, my first knife of 2016 just arrived via the USPS - a 1994 Buck 118 Personal in mint, unused condition. This one is made of the current 420HC steel, just fine for a hunters working knife. OH

Colonel, there's just something about those Buck fixed blades that's crawlin' up inside me and I don't need another passion. HELP!! But they feel so good in your hand and the sheaths are thick quality leather.

That 303 is a California made Buck Dogg (a sub-division of Buck collecting I just woke up to thanks to our buddy Baykeeper here at AAPK). This knife exhibits the earlier variations of the Buck CA build - two springs, brass liners, and flat grinds as well as the limited run yellow Valox handles. The easiest way to determine if a 300 series was built by Buck in one of their plants is the nail-nick, it will be a thumbnick - not a long pull like the Schrade or Camillus built Buck 300's.

I know exactly what you mean Jerry, I bought my first one, a Buck 105 Pathfinder, at the APG MD PX in 1976, now I'm accumulating duplicates! Here's the basic "set" of mine, if you will, and an old advertisement photo - most of us will recognize that Buck box from hardware stores and gunshops many years ago. OH

I bought two of those Buck knife display cases from the Army surplus store that my Dad bought me my first knife at over 60 years ago. I have one nearly full of Buck knives and the other full of other brand knives. Both are for different knives. I just bought this converted 110 (1999 model) today. I put it in Knife Finds of the Day thread also but thought I'd stick it in here also for you Buck collectors. ____Dave

Dave, that is a nice Buck 110 auto conversion - let us hear more about it as you use it some.

I went to a local gunshow today, not much in the way of knives (that I wanted to buy) but I did find an older Buck 112 sheath from one of the custom runs in new but scuffed condition - a knife has never been in it as far as I could tell (got one in it now!) I think it's an early to mid 1980's. I can use it for anyone of several Buck's I have in that size (112 - 422 - 412). OH

Anyway I've been loving the 112 [my first] and the 500 [2nd] plus
the others. Lock backs inspire confidence.

Got to say I'm surprised how much I like the 482 with Sandvik, 12c27m steel.
Very light weight and really tight all around. Apparently they were made for Cabela.
Sheath is pretty good too and came with a small sharpening item.
The small Vantage is nice too.
A person would be just fine if all they had available were Bucks

Your right Pro Buck alone will get you buy they carry a good variety and great value,but you can get'em pretty dressed up You have sum great Bucks there

Just bought this one off e-bay (a rarity for me anymore) because it is a 1988 Buck 110 with Gold Bond Vinyl Siding engraved into the wood handle. I can't wait to get it and clean it up. I sold Gold Bond Vinyl in the mid to late 1980's, in fact I was a Tin Man (one of the companies top vinyl siding salesmen) - I never knew we even had this Buck Knife made! OH

Thanks Dogg. The 110 came in Monday's mail, cleaned it up a bit, need to work on the edge. Found the 112 late Monday afternoon at a pawnshop - two good Bucks in a single day! OH

Copper & Clad, a big Buck knife dealer in Springfield MO is offering a SFO of the Buck 100 series right now. The knives feature brass pommels and blade guards and 5160 BOS treated chromium-vanadium steel - a first for Buck that I know of. They are available on the Amazon website, free freight, right now. Mine is the Buck 118 and is blade etched #004. The 118 is only offered with the black phenolic handle, but some of the more popular Buck's (like the 119) have some other handle options. OH
Ps I weighed this new 118 with brass fittings and an older, standard 118 I have with aluminum pommel and blade guard - 6 oz. for the brass version, 4 oz. for the aluminum version - a noticeable weight difference.

Got out in my shed last night and experimented with cleaning up the blade steel on my recently acquired Buck 110. I had some 220 grit sandpaper as well as some 1500 and crocus cloth. I put a little 220 on a small block of wood and cleaned up the worse scratches (see the sellers picture above from 2/14 - blade looked like it lost a fight with an electric grinder). I also polished around and over the the edge, followed by 1500 and the crocus cloth, and finally a good stropping. I need some intermediate grades of sandpaper (between 220 and 1500), but I am pleased so far - one more shed trip with the intermediate papers and it will be presentable and ready to begin life as a user. OH

You've been going Buck crazy, Colonel. That 118 looks GREAT!!.

I think its time for you to go to H_____ F______ for a 1" belt grinder or maybe a Work S____ and get lots of different belts to go with it. It seems your going to be working on stuff, it will make it so much easier. Some knife supply folks have 1" belts in different grits and even have belts you can load up with rouge. buy a shop apron to protect your clothes and go slow. I mounted one of those lighted magnifying lens on a arm over mine. Was just saying.

The WS you can hold in one hand and take it to the work, rather than visa versa. But, the belts wear out quicker.........300

Okay, I get it now! Yes, there is a big Harbor Freight store located next door to a lumberyard I call on in Fayetteville - there is also a Northern Tool in Fayetteville, but on the other side of town near Fort Bragg. I'll be down there in a few days, so I will look around. Thank's Jerry and 300 Bucks. OH
