Grinc here is a copy of the ad where you could order one of those Bazooka knives. A good ole knifer friend of mine sent it to me some time back.

WOW!

Never seen one of those before. The only difference between the actual knife and the AD is the real knife has a steel bail, the ad says it is nickle silver.

Nice to be able to date these as well, 1949.

Hay Tank, yep I saw that one too but didn't bid on it. I have too much in the works as it is,,, But a FINE SCOUT though.

Here's a Crucible scout that arrived in my mailbox today.
Crucible was a brand sold by W T Grant of New York from 1921-1932.

Phil, is that the W.T. Grant of dimestore fame in the first half of the 20th century? If so, that's a heck of a nice knife for a five and dime store.

Jerry to the best of my knowledge that is the same retailer who sold these knives. I got my information from Blade's Guide to Knives and Their Values.

W.T. Grant was not a "Dime Store". They sold everything from candies to large appliances, home furnishings, pots and pans, clothing, and I guess, knives. Price-wise, they were not very cheap either.

I think I would. We had a W.T. Grant here in No. Kentucky up until about the 1970's. Maybe put in the class of a Sears and Roebuck from the same time frame, before the super stores.

Thanks T.J. I remember the name but I don't really remember the store. I don't even know if we had one in Evansville. Mostly what I remember from those days was S.S. Kresge's, F.W. Woolworth and Sears.

Back on subject, sort of. I saw a couple of Wards knives on eBay for not much money. They looked in the pictures like a fairly decent knife.

I've got a brother to that one with cracked ice scales. When I put it beside my old Challenge, they are darn near identical. Makes me wonder who made what for whom.
