I'm inclined to agree. The 300 series knives have been in production for so long that there are probably many owners, whether a knife enthusiast or not, who have carried one for decades. My boss at work showed me his 303 approximately 15 years ago and it had some age on it then. I assume he still carries it but I don't know that for sure.

Change of course, is inevitable but I agree that this is a shame. The 300 series knives are icons in the Buck lineup.

It may be worse than we thought - just out of curiosity I searched both Ebay and Amazon for new current production 301's and 303's...zip/zero/nada on both sites.

I recently acquired a list of Buck knives discontinued for 2022. There are 22 models on the list and fortunately, the 301 and 303 are not among them.

does buck make any of the 300s ? are some of them made in china ?

This list is from 2019. There are a few exceptions now but it's still pretty accurate.

I personally don't think the china knives should be in the 300 series of knives

Awhile back I had an interest in the construction of the Black Sawcut Delrin 303 so I disassembled one to see how it was made. Here's a link to a post I made about it if anyone is interested. Long story short, you won't be losing the shield or handle slabs on a Black Sawcut 303.

Rick, that stag Buck pocketknife is really nice. So is the one you had redone. I always have wished that the Buck Custom Shop would add some 300 series knives to their list. I would love to have a bunch of different handle materials to choose from to build a knife. Does anyone know if a 300 series knife has been on the BCS list of custom knives to be?

BTW, what would you value your stag Buck at currently? Thanks.

Hi Larry! No long time, no talk to.

The price is another thing that was really cool about that knife. Since it was going to have the forum stamp on the blade, the forum owner would not allow the sponsoring dealer (SKblades) to make any profit on the run. As a result, we got them at the same cost that Buck charged the dealer which I believe was $72. Even with shipping added on they were less than $80 a piece.

If I sold it today, which I'm not, I wouldn't charge much more than what I paid but that's just me. I wouldn't hold it against anyone who did.

Great knife! I have always thought if Buck had as many different handle colors and materials for their 300 series as Case does for their knives, they could sell them as fast as they could make them. Buyers get tired of the same old same old.

I am partial to my 307 and 301. The 307 is just a nice big hefty piece I also am a sucker for a big 'ol trapper so my 317 get's it share of hip-time
