That's what I thought at first but it looks a skosh small and high on the leg (more on the hip) for a hammer loop. Maybe it was intended to serve as something to clip a cell phone on. I could be all wet. It's happened before (numerous times). Maybe Rick will enlighten us on it's intended purpose.
You're right Jerry. It's a little small for a hammer. These are Wrangler Riggs Contractor jeans. Not to be confused with Carpenter jeans but they offer those too with a larger loop for a hammer.
In the description for these Contractor jeans the loop is described as a "just-in-case utility loop".

Thanks Rick. I needed that.
Or just in case you're one of those rare individuals who always carries a spud wrench with them.
For anyone who doesn't know what a "spud wrench" is.

Here are a few from my accumulation and why you should NOT carry a cheap knife in your pocket when you are pulling up your pants.
Good thing you weren't carrying one of those veterinary/neuter/castration/nutter knives.
Actually that happened to my son. He loses a couple knives a month so he buys cheap,"Pacific Rim" stuff and that was one of them. He carried it inside his pocket and it had a habit of opening slightly. After it happened we destroyed the knife.

You don't. Ya make mashed taters out of 'em. The skins are healthy.

I always EDC a knife with a pocket clip (Kershaw Chill or Leek, Spyderco Endura 4). But, I can count on one hand the number of knives I keep as collectibles that have a pocket clip.
One of the more interesting pocket clips I have ever seen is this integral clip on my Beretta Sport Knife (which, ironically, although I use the knife almost daily in my office, I never actually use the clip for its intended purpose).
I love how the pocket clip, blade channel and mark side "handle" are all formed from a single piece of steel (hard to show in photos, but I'll try).

Nice selection of clips Dan!

Very interesting stuff to admire. Those tie clips & cuff links are pretty cool & the Case boot knife is a real beauty!
Tom
Thank you Tom.

Laid my ol' Sog Flash II aside to allow this Case to ride in my bib overall breast pocket for a while. The Sog has served me well, I use it as a beater, cut, scrape, gouge, whatever comes up. The other day I decided to move up a bit and start toting this Case Southern Grind during deer season. I wont be scraping any gaskets with this one.

In my pockets I always carry a traditional pocket knife and a SAK Climber. But I do have some clips that I tote everyday!
1) Galco King Tuck with a 1911.
2) On Sunday’s a CASE Midhunter Kickstart.
3) Monday-Saturday my Spyderco Military.
4) Everyday my streamlight. I’m finding lights aren’t as bright as they used to be. Y’all ever notice that?
5) Vintage Parker 51 fountain pen filled with Oxford blue ink.

Some very unique and interesting clips. Q, that’s a unique design - if you remove that one-piece clip what do you have left? Would a fully functional knife remain?
Phillip, I’ve been eyeballing those Case Southern Grind flippers (and the newer Shark Tooth Flipper). What’s your impression now that you’ve carried and used it a while?

If the one-piece clip were removed what would be left is a blade attached to a thin piece of steel by a pivot. I think the frame lock would still lock the blade open, so technically I guess it could be considered "fully functional" although it would probably not be comfortable to use nor safe to carry. Definitely some interesting engineering went into that little Beretta, though.
Here are the only non-EDC knives in my collection with pocket clips:
Lone Wolf Paul Prankster and Lone Wolf Paul Presto (both customized with genuine elephant ivory handles by Ivoryman)
AG Russell Spire with Black Pearl handle

~Q~, I keep the Beretta you gave me on the table by my chair so I can fondle it and play with it while watching TV. It's a slick little outfit. Easy to open. Easy to close and sharp as the dickens.

"Coon fingering" was the term you used to describe that action, IIRC...I smile and chuckle every time I pick up the Baretta because I always think of your perfect phrase.
Probably the best $20 I ever spent on a knife (or the best knife I ever got for $20).

A Zippo money clip /knife with my name engraved on it. Was bombed on me by a fellow AAPKer. Amazingly there is some money in it!
I like that one!

Yes, "Coon fingering" is the proper terminology for what I do. When I croak it will be worn out and the most work it will have done is open a package of cookies.

Bought these two to try it out. I can also put lanyards on these.

Got this Back-Pack from my wife for Christmas. Finally got around to putting a patch on it.

And I can carry stuff with clips on the outside of it for easy access. Knives, Flashlights, small Screwdrivers ect. There are two more sets of loops behind the patches for a total of four things I could clip onto it. (Not to mention the 16 loops on the lower part of it.)

Now..., as soon as I transfer all the crap from my old Back-Pack over into this new one, I could actually start useing it.

Maybe I'll make it by Easter time?

Thanks Dan!
I checked the Bay for those Vu-Lighters. Found out they were made by Scripto. They do have some. They start around 20-25€.
Also found some Ronson lighters that Skip mentioned to me but I'm getting off the Clip subject now.

I wonder if they ever made a Zippo lighter with a Clip on it?

Probably not.
