Saw an old post about the" Queen Stainless" mark dates. I have this little publication from the Queen Cutlery Collectors Inc. They say that STAINLESS through the Q is from 1946-1954. J'O'.

Two fine examples Q. And I count myself among those who have long favored Winterbottom be it bone or delrin.
Thank you, Garry. I must admit that it took me a long time to warm up to Winterbottom. Although I can tolerate the Delrin as long as it's in relatively new condition, I much prefer the genuine Winterbottom Bone. (Does that make me a "Winterbottom snob"?

)

Very nice, Q!
Always enjoy your posts and passion for the mini-trappers. In fact I just admired my "bomb", my raise in "pay grade", my sweet S&M mini-trapper, thank you, again!
Thank you, Philip. I'm glad to hear you still have and like the S&M 042151 Mini-T bomb

That particular model is one of my personal top ten favorite Mini Trappers of all time. Although, in truth, it's not really a "pay raise," it's more like a one-time bonus. But I figured the hard-working, salt-of-the-earth folks at Starvation Plantation deserve a dollop of whip cream with a cherry on top every now and then.

Got a question concerning the bottom knife in the last picture. What about the raised rivets on the bolsters? I've not handled one before and have noticed pictures of some Queens with a raised rivet that does not appear to have the finish that yours has. I think those knives were advertised as more of a "work" knife not too many years ago.
Treefarmer
I don't know anything about the raised rivet models, but I suspect you are probably correct about them being sold as "work" knives. As for the finish on my #51, I believe that it might be slightly better than average because this particular knife was apparently a SFO that was given to customers or employees of Walters Trucking (which I know absolutely nothing about either). Based on the pile side blade (faux) engraving, it appears that the blade stamping was possibly done in transit while being shipped over unpaved roads...perhaps in the back of one of Walters trucks!

Q, you are simply a Winterbottom purist. No snobbery at all.

The knives with raised pins were called the "work horse" series, supposedly a cost saving tactic.

here's a couple.

What's your opinion on the raised pins bighomer? Feel ok in your hand?

Pretty knives!

Picked up my second single blade Mini Trapper #51 with Winterbottom Delrin handle. I love the #51 pattern, especially the single blade model which I can't say I see too often.
I feel very fortunate to own two, both in excellent condition. Although similar (both measure 3½" closed), they're not identical, so I guess that would make them fraternal twins.
Those look great Q!

Congrats on the nice find!

I don't notice the pins just handling them. They don't get much use, they were gifts from sweet thang a few years ago they get carried some but mostly set in the chest. The congress is the most expensive knife i own.

I have no trouble identifying the date of a Case knife from the tang stamp; but, although I love and own many Queen knives, I can never seem to remember the dates corresponding to the many different tang stamps.
I realize that this tang stamp chart has been posted on the forum a few times already but I'm posting it again since I have to reference it so often and I suspect there are others who do as well. (Maybe if I look at it enough times eventually it might actually stick in my memory for more than a few seconds.)
According to this chart, a 'Q' bisected with 'STAINLESS' was used approximately 1951-1954

Suddenly I can't seem to get enough Winterbottom Bone (OCD much?). Snagged this 1983 Queen 6155 Old Pattern Lock-Back off eBay and have been coon-fingering it pretty steadily ever since. (When it's not being coon-fingered, you can bet it's getting a healthy dose of the chicken-eye!)
Closed length = 4½"

Thanks guys. I appreciate the comments.
This little yella fella showed up at my door recently looking for a loving home despite hairline rocker pin crack (on both sides). Of course I took him in. These early 1990s Queen Mini Trappers have the snappiest gator snap ever.

Man Q, that one is new to me. I like it a lot (shield, yeller handles, tang stamp, blade etch, croc'o snap; it has everything).
Queens that have a slight defect, i.e. your pin crack, are probably the deal of the century. I've dealt in enough of em' too know

.
I'm putting one on my "Snag List", me ole yeller 8 dot needs a pal.

Although I prefer genuine Winterbottom bone, I can tolerate the Winterbottom Delrin as long as it's on a #51 (and in relatively new/unused condition).
Lucked into this pristine 1976 Queen #51 Winterbottom Delrin Mini Trapper. Love the pen blade. Both blades have super snappy snap...the way Queen made knives back then.

Great little Queen.
Had to look it up, bighomer. #2 is a serpentine jack 3.25".

For some reason a 1979 knife doesn't seem that old but, that was 41 years ago.

I posted this pair of Queen Steel on the "Pairs" thread. Thought some Queen collectors might like them. They're very pocket-worn white bone.
Rough day here in OC, MD. Raining sideways, windy and raw! Northeast is going to get some big wet snow tonight!

Ridgegrass, I love those 2 knives!
What pattern # are those Queens? I would guess the single blade is a #11 but what about the one with the broken blade?
Q, if some one had asked me to identify the handle material, I would have thought real Winterbottom bone. I have one #11 E Z open with Winterbottom bone and the jigging grooves are much closer to each other, I can see where those could possibly stag handles.

Always something to learn here on AAPK.

I think I must have my "stag goggles" on...if it looks at all close, I always want it to be stag...whether or not it actually is...but the fact that the PWWB looks at all close to Pocket Worn Stag is
very cool...I like that
Here's my "newest" Queen which, although not pocket worn, is genuine Stag

Let me say this knife is not my newest Queen but to show some of Queen's great stag, I am presenting this #52 as an example:

- The mark side with less grain in order to affix a shield.

- The pile side with great stag, looks and feel.

Hi treefarmer.... The one with the broken blade is a #24 slim trapper. I do believe the handles are Winterbottom bone.
