FRJ: That's an old style shield that Boker didn't use very much. I've seen a few of them over the years, but not a lot. Ricky & Neal's Boker book dates that shield from the late 1800's - 1938 time frame. I always have referred to them as a "tulip" shield because it reminds me of a tulip bloom.

All you guys and everyone else in this post have put up some very nice knives!

Thanks Barry,that is very interesting.Several years ago I showed that knife to Mark Zelesky and he didn't have a guess on the etch.

Here's a Wyeth's Warranted Cutlery. 3 1/8".

That is an especially nice knife, Roland. True sunk joints whereas the joints an my knife are not quite sunk.
And very smartly set blades on yours. Joseph Rodgers all day long.

Here are 3 'Tippers', the first 3 i picked up out of the 'tip jar' where i throw 'em all in.
From bottom up: ivory Champagne Pattern, Germany; Vom Cleff Whittler; American Shear & Knife Co. Whittler.

Here is the Vom Cleff whittler, almost certainly made by Lutters Co. in Solingen Germany. It is vintage but how old is a guess. Before WW II and possibly before WW I. It is a 'hefty' knife. The pearl is fairly thick and nicely rounded to the liners. Note how thick the master blade spine is. Absolutely correct for a whittler pattern. The master blade is to be tough and strong even though dressed in fancy pearl.
I consider this to be one of my nicest knives.

Here is the 3 1/4" senator whittler marked "American Shear & Knife Co". The etch has been mostly rubbed off but "Tredway Wizard Hand Hammered" can still be made out. I have posted more pictures of this knife here: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60274&p=701916&hilit=shear#p701916

The 3 7/8" ivory Champagne Pattern knife is only marked with a logo: the anchor/star/arrow of Wester & Butz, Solingen cutlery manufacturers 1832-1966, This logo was registered in 1896. Note the logo was either poorly stamped or buffed, or both, so it is not there in full. There is no other logo similar enough that i know of for it to be any other maker.

Roland, that's the mark of Franz Frenzel.

Here are 3 pearl pen knives with tip bolsters. from the bottom: 3" senator pen, markings shown, can you read them ?; 3 1/4" crown pen, "H&B MFG. Co."; and a 2 7/8" delicate senator pen, Schrade Cut. Co. with some serious blade oxidation.

And finally for today at least here is a 2 7/8" 4 blade serpentine pen knife, no markings. I know of no name for this pattern. The patterns we have names for are USA & British knives. I think this knife is German and the pattern was likely not made elsewhere.

Carter's book shows the F.F. logo as having no line (arrow) across the top end of the anchor shaft and the F.F. logo is inside a double circle.
I can see what looks like 2 "F" facing away from each other so it well could be that Carter is not showing variations ?
Either way it is vintage German.
