All About Pocket Knives

I have not done ANYTHING to it. Been really tempted to condition the sheath and wax the blade & handle with Renaissance, but did not. As of now, it is "as found".

Renaissance wax is a good choice and will not harm the handle or blade but that is as far as I would go especially if you are going to sell it.

Found knife and sheath, sheath has Boy Scout emblem stamped on it. I thought I could see some of the Scout etch on the knife blade. If so it is very faint.

I was searching for a good place to post this Ideal, this looks like it is the ideal place.

The M.S.A. CO., GLADSTONE, MICH. U.S.A. ricasso stamp was used 1905-1910. I won this 6" blade knife at action, part of a Marble's fixed blade lot that also included a 7" Ideal and a 10" Trail Maker, both with leather/aluminum pommel handles and the 2 line Axe Stamp (pictured too). This stag Ideal needed help, as I could tell from the auction pictures. Somewhere along the last 100 years, the threaded tang broke and spacers were lost close to the pommel. Also, the original pommel (which was probably crown stag) was replace by a piece of carved wood and Bondoed to what was left of the threaded tang (about a ¼").

I showed it to my old buddy Herb (at my wedding no less!), and he said he would look at it and see what could be done to make it at least presentable. He dug the Bondo out, found a square nut that was buried and also holding the wooden pommel in place, found cloth bandage tape under the 4 pin stag handle and looked for repair parts. Well, nothing ever materialized with parts; apparently we were about a year late on a shop closing in Michigan that might have had some 100 year old replacement parts.

So, Herb turned to the internet and eventually found a brass ½" pommel nut, some crown stag and black and red spacer material, he already had brass spacers. He also picked up a welder and decided to try welding a threaded screw to the remaining tang to make the knife handle the correct size, and was successful. Then everything had to be cut, fitted and put together. The tricky part was sizing the existing spacers that had already been hafted to uniformity. But he and I both worked at this.

Here's some pictures of this 100+ year old Ideal made for Webster Marble. I have auction pictures*, but they're on a different SD card, might post them later.
