So that the "dark, salty, slimy creatures that inhabited the murky depths of
the oceans
" could clean the barnacles from under their fingernails!
At least I think that was the reason.

IN THE BEGINNING...

was the WORD, and the WORD was GOD -- and all else was darkness
and void, without form. So, GOD created the Heavens and the Earth.
He created the sun, and the moon, and the stars, so that the light might
pierce the darkness. The earth GOD divided between the land and the
sea and these HE filled with many assorted creatures.

And the dark, salty, slimy creatures that inhabited the murky depths of
the oceans, GOD called sailors, and he dressed them accordingly, with
trousers that looked like bells at the bottom, with cute little flaps on
their shirts to hide the hickeys on their necks. He also gave them long
sideburns and shaggy looking beards. GOD nicknamed them "squids" and
banished them to a lifetime at sea so the normal folks would not have to
associate with them. To further identify these unloved creatures, HE
called them petty and commodore instead of titles worthy of red-blooded
men.

And the flighty creatures of the land, GOD called soldiers. And with a
twinkle in HIS eye, and a sense of humor only HE could have, GOD made
their trousers too short, and hats too large, and gave them pockets to warm
their hands. And to adorn their uniforms, GOD gave them badges in
quantities only a dime store owner could appreciate. And HE gave them
emblems and crests...and all sorts of shiny things that glittered...and
devices that dangled. (When you are GOD, you tend to get carried away --
in a big way.)

On the 5th day, HE thought about creating some air creatures for which
he designed a Greyhound bus driver's uniform especially for flyboys, but
HE discarded the idea during the first week, and it was not until years
later that some apostles "resurrected" the idea and established what we
now know as the wild blue yonder wonders.

And on the 7th day, as you know, GOD rested. and on the 8th day at 0500,
GOD looked down upon the earth and was not happy. GOD was not happy!!!
So, he thought about his labors, and in HIS infinite wisdom, GOD created
a divine creature, and this HE called Marine. And these Marines, who GOD
had created in HIS own image, were to be of the air and of the land and
of the sea. And these HE gave many wonderful uniforms. Some were green,
some were blue with red trim, and in the early days some were even a
beautiful tan.

He gave them practical fighting uniforms, so that they could wage war
against the forces of Satan and Evil.
He gave them service uniforms for their daily work and training, that
they might be sharp and ready...And HE gave them evening dress
uniforms...Sharp, stylish, handsome things, so they might promenade with
their ladies on a Saturday night, and impress the crap out outta
everybody!!! HE even gave them swords so that people who were not
impressed could be dealt with.

And at the end of the 8th day, GOD looked down upon the earth and saw
that it was good. But was GOD happy? NO!!! GOD was still not happy!!!
Because in the course of his labors, GOD had forgotten one thing...HE
did not have a Marine uniform HIMSELF!!! But, HE thought about it, and
thought about it and finally satisfied himself in knowing that...

Well, not everybody can be a Marine!!!

(Biblical citations supplied by Lt Col Beil, USMC,Retired.)
Well, THAT makes it all clear!

Can you give me a link that shows those two knives? I keep a few of these on-hand just for the parts to repair them with and would like to see if there's any hope for them.

I'll be checking for blade dates when I look them over too.

I was just wanting a look at the two knives mentioned to determine if they could be repaired or perhaps bought for parts. As for what two knives, I was hoping carrmillus could answer that one.

Bob, if this quote is what you're talking about, I was referring to video links someone had posted. ::shrug::

BTW, that little project we discussed will be "in the mail" today. The check will be in a separate envelope. I forgot to stick it in with the package until after it was all packed up, sealed and addressed. ::doh:: ::dang:: ::facepalm::

Good job Royal, getting this thread back on track - nice Schrade Honesteel. I've put this one in the First of 2016 thread when I hit "buy it now" - it shipped from FL on Monday and should be here Friday per the tracking number. Buck 118 with sheath; sellers photo's taken off ebay. OH

Wow, my Buck 118 is really in the mail; since Monday it has traveled from Sarasota to Tampa in FL, as of right now it has made it to Western Nassau NY! Maybe they will be able to find Raleigh NC by tomorrow or Saturday - usually the folks in Raleigh are capable of finding eastern NC for local delivery. Good golly, what efficiency! OH

Thanks for the link Grant. I had forgotten about that thread ::dang::

As for the knife, the other pictures show that the lock may be broken. And the edge is buggered some.
No description and not real clear pictures. Won't know 'till it gets here ::shrug::

But the honesteel is worth the price of admission

Colonel, I've had a few take a walk about but so far (knock on wood) the USPS has only lost one knife and a couple of Bluetooth ear bud headsets for my phone (in the same package). I hope they deliver them as planned and don't make an exception for you.

This one isn't technically in the mail ask just bid it in. It's a Case Tony Bose back pocket model. Look at that big ol long swedge. I saw that and got weak in the knees. My wife saw it and asked me why I wasn't going to buy it. That's all it took to push me over the edge. Lol.

New old stock never used or sharpened and at a hair over 4.5 inches, it's just the right size.

Currently I'm walkin' the floor over these. ::pace::

This was a lot of two. I have a few of the Victorinox single sheepfoot blade Floral knives but didn't know about these. Bought them with the intention of having them around as gifts. We'll see how that plan turns out.
Victorinox Floral Clip Blade - Both.jpg

This was sort of a planned impulse purchase. I've looked at these off and on for quite some time but could never generate enough enthusiasm to grab one. My first and most likely my last. I hope the seller gets it shipped today.

Colonel Wade, nice Case-Bose - think you will really like that knife (especially as you like large pocketknives).

Jerry, I bought a Cub Scout from Dale Orvet several years ago (sort of a replacement to my long lost early boyhood EDC) - glad I did. I don't carry it, but I have it on the shelf near my desk, just to see it (along with a brown handled BSA) for fun and memory. OH

I was never in Cub Scouts. Was in Boy Scouts for a minute but we moved again so that didn't last. It looks in the picture to be in good condition and the price was right so I got it just to have one. Kind of goes with my one of everything accumulating philosophy.

You're a prophet! This has become one of my top three all time favorite Case patterns. It's right up there with the 6375, maybe a tad above the 63047.

From my observations of 2013-present it seems that the dark ages for Case are over. The new ones I have and have personally held are the best ones made since the 70's. IMO. This one has GEC Llevel f/f to my eye, half stops, the pull is just right and it's consistent through the entire arc of travel. That's something. That these big knives don't always have.

It's thin too, so even though it's big it doesn't feel overly large in your hand or pocket. It's a win win winner!

It's been a bit of a dry spell, but the dam broke tonight. I won three knives in two eBay auctions.

The first is near and dear to my heart. It was a two knife deal, a Camillus 64 delrin and a first year Camillus 72 in Rogers bone. This is the second one of these 1946 72's I've found, they're my favorites. The first pic was what showed on eBay when the listing came up. The second pic was buried about three pictures in.

The second one was an eBay buy too, from our very own Paladin. It's a fine fine fine old HOK, just my style. It's a red bone Boker USA stockman 4 1/8 inches long. The bone is perfect and there's just enough blade loss that it'll get good and sharp. Thanks Mr. Ray!
