Description: The Spyderco Q was made as a affordable and lightweight knife with a laster cut blade that was made from 440C stainless steel. The Blade was available to be custom cut with your company logo on it or other design if you commissioned a certain number of blades produced. There exist at least 50 different cutout variations for the blade, not including blade edge variations and handle color variations. The spring lock is unique and patented, though not very reliable. The knife was originally called the Silhouette.

The Frank Centofante designed Spyderco Vesuvius is a beautifully contoured knife that has become a great reliable permanent knife in the Spyderco line-up with four different generations already. The fourth generation Vesuvius has the Wharncliffe blade and is not meant to replace third genertaion models, but offer an alternative blade shape. The first generation of this popular folder was designed with a compression lock, which was functionally problematic due to the design of the FRN handles, prompting a change to a lockback design after two years, making the first generation compression lock Vesuvius a collectible knife. Generation 1 folders were also available with a Shell insert on the handle.

Generation 2 folders were similar to Generation 1 folders with the change of the lock type. Generation 3 folders added an addition groove chanel to the handle, a switch to VG-10 steel and an adjustment to the location of the back lock.

I dismissed Spyderco long ago as just a keychain knife. I traded for this last year just to see what all the hub bub is with Spyderco. This Delica is a little to small for me but I have to admit for a knife that's probably 20 years old it still feels tight. With all the knives I have around here now it doesn't make sense for me to buy another one. I think I'd trade for another Spyderco if one comes along. Something a little bigger.

I just spent a little time looking over this thread. You Guys have some pretty cool knives, even Junebug's phallic symbol Spyderco's H-1 steel intrigues me. I'm on the water several times a month so I know what saltwater will do to a knife. From what I see if Spyderco says it won't rust, it won't rust. I just wonder how H-1 holds an edge and how easy it is to re-sharpen. I might just have to spring for a pacific salt.
I'd have to go with the plain edge because I use my knife for more than cutting mooring line. I think the full Spydie edge would be great for cut bait but it would tear up a fillet.

Wazu I've flirted with the idea of getting one of those H1 knives myself. So far, my inner tightwad has not allowed me to have one, but perhaps someday......

One other thing to worry about is all the counterfeit Spyderco knives out there. I read that even Cabelas had a batch of fake Paramilitary 2's. I've seen counterfeits connected to Amazon and of course ebay is loaded with them. So you can't shop around for a better price. You have to spend whatever and buy from a trusted dealer. I wouldn't know a fake Spyderco if it bit me in the butt.

WAZ- my understanding.....from reading.........the serrated H1 knives hold a edge longer than plain edge............
I have had both...but never used either one long enough or hard enough to tell any difference.....their is a guy on a spyderco forum who swears by serrated H1 to fillet .......i still have a yeller SALT 1 fully serrated & Ti clip, used,if any interest?

I'd be interested in the Salt 1 from the perspective of checking the way H1 reacts to my needs but ultimately I'd have to get a Pacific salt mainly because of size. I don't see many little fish in my travels so the 3 3/4" blade is a must. I know you can get more for the Salt 1 than I'd be looking to spend.
