Keith those are some of the nicest JUNK knives I've seen in a long, long time. Nice to see this thread revived. Maybe we can get some new, old contributions.

My crap can't compare with Keith’s crap, but here's what I have to add. Case Tested 6221-1/2, or what's left of one. Discontinued some time during the Tested era, it's a pattern you don't often see. About all that remains of this one is the pocket-worn greenbone handles.
And a Rather & Co. waterfall? celluloid gunstock whittler. I'd really like to have seen it when it was new!

Ken that 06221 1/2 is an illusive pattern for sure. I would guess that this pattern, like many that were phased out in the Tested years, was not a prolific seller and likey lead to the pattern being discontinued. . Low sales numbers and phased out in a Tested stamp equals very hard to find. The patterned celluloid handle Rather & Co. knife doesn't look like waterfall to me. I usually call these patterns shell pearl celluloid with the associated color used. Gold shell pearl celluloid? Must be an early celluloid. Nice gunstock pattern.

Keith's idea of crap is pretty close to my treasure definition.

Neat thread, some really good knives even in worn condition.

Here's an old American Knife Co., Plymouth, that I wish was more presentable.

If I had to say I had one that fit into this category, it would be this American Shear whittler. Sure has had a lot of rust on it and a lot of pitting.Otherwise it is fairly good shape.

Joe, I have a weakness for hawk bills, even when well used. Like the stock on that one.
O C even with pitting it is not pitiful, very wonderful old knife.

I agree on the American Shear. Beautiful old knife and great pattern. Doesn't look like it was rode hard but got put up wet and pitted.

OLDE CUTLER, that knife is a winner all the way around.

It seems like you are talking about my whole collection. Here are a few closest to the top. the other 2 are the ones I wouldn't change, no amount of improvement would improve them.

Thanks to Keith for reviving this thread, it is interesting to see what folks considered their "rarest junk". I ended up with something that was apparently pretty rare and it had broken bone handles that I was considering having replaced. Some how Dimitri and I made a deal and he became the new owner of my "rarest junk", a big old Platts Bros. Here is what it looked like when I traded it to Miller Bro's: Treefarmer

Every knife don't need a makeover

This is one I wish was in better shape. The pearl is cracked and the edges chipped out a little and one side is a tad loose. It's not terrible and I'm very glad to have it, but oh if only it were minty.

It does make me feel better that it's the only one I've seen. Never thought I'd find a survivor to begin with.

That is a great old knife tight crack, and little nibbles along the edges just tell you it is a original. Many of the old bigger pearls have been redone.

Nice posting by treefarmer and great group by Bruce. Paul I don't think junk should be used anywhere near that pearl cattle. I've always loved any old larger pearl knife on a working frame. Some rare knives in any condition being posted here.

Thanks for the kind words gents. I sure do like a good cattle knife whether it's fancy or plain. I wouldn't have it if it weren't for Dimitri

One side has a big chip. Its a mixed blessing. I wish it was better but I wouldn’t have been able to buy it if it were mint. It’s a type 2 10 th mountain division knife from ww2. Sorry the for the bad picture. I’ll take more and repost it.
