Nice old Henckels, Joe! What is the closed length?

I have a Utica melon tester somewhere that I recieved "free" from a seed company, shipped to me with my seed order. Unfortunately I'm not sure where it is! It will turn up someday.

I think of melon testers as having a single blade and being at least 5 inches closed length. Here's a couple that have multiple blades and are 4-1/4 inches long. Case called the 6296X a "citrus knife". I have no idea about the York whittler, except the shape and length appear to be appropriate for the same useage. ::shrug::

Thanks Ken, I can't believe I forgot to add that information.
This knife is 4 5/16" closed. The same as the other two Henckels I previously posted.

Those are really nice looking knives, Ken. ::tu::
I always wanted a Case. Someday ..........
Your York Cutlery whittler is fine. ::nod::
I hope you come across that Utica.

Thanks for the show!

I found the Utica melon tester. The secondary blade is a small fork.

Here is another odd one:a Utica made in China with clear handles and advertising beneath.Oh yes and it has a serrated blade.

I think the sausage knife is generally a shorter knife, under 5 inches. Sausage knives and citrus knives are different names for the same knife. Melon testers are longer, to cut a deeper “plug” into a watermelon. 5 inches is arbitrary though, just a general length.

FRJ wrote: Thu May 31, 2018 12:04 am And here are a couple more melon testers. The knife with two blades was posted elsewhere some time ago.
I recently got the single blade knife. I wish they weren't so blade worn but I like them just the same.

Henckels Melon Tester .... both at 4 5/16" closed.

Thanks for looking.
I missed these the first time around. Wow what handles!!!!! ::nod:: ::nod:: ::nod:: ::tu:: ::tu::

Thank you, doglegg. :)

It's amazing the sharpening these knives have gone through and they are from two entirely different sources.
They must have gone through a lot of melons, else they were skinnin' Armadillos or sumpin'. Beyond me.

I’ve known old timers who carried melon testers as an EDC, used them for everything but melon testing. On the other hand I have a citrus knife with pocket worn handles but the blades are full. ::shrug::

Well, the little citrus knife may have been just pocket jewelry which is fine of course.
At least they was packin'.

I have a couple to contribute fellas! The 1st. is an Imperial SS105 5 3/4" closed Melon Tester with cream-colored composite(?)covers, and the 2nd is a J.A. Henkels 4 3/8" closed all-stainless Sausage Knife. When I was a teen I owned a beautiful unknown maker 5 3/4" closed Melon Tester with genuine MOP covers and bolsters on both ends, that I gave to a friend who fell in love with it as soon as he saw it, and I've regretted parting with it ever since. I've always liked these simple, super-cool folders! Sorry bout the lousy pictures. Great thread FRJ! 8)

I have a few, mostly Colonial.

There's a Kabar in the pile and a Case also.

I like the ones that have the fork on the knives the most
